home birthing in HK

I was told it is possible but hard eg. you need to take lots of pictures for proof.

I suggest you contact Hulda from Annerley who is a registered midwife in HK and she can provide you with more information. She has done home birth.

I have gone this route, but it does take a lot of will and commitment. You can either fly in a midwife from abroad, hire one here (not easy but not impossible) or do it yourself.

Photos of me pregnant, just after delivery and of the placenta and the baby were needed to register the birth, as well as a statement by the midwife but we had no real trouble.

It is not a common route to take but it is for sure the best way to have the most amazing and empowering experience and keeping yourself and your baby safe from intervention.

I agree with Inkmink on your best place to start your research (Annerly). Wish you all the best...it will be worth it!

Thank you for replying. If you don't mind, can you describe more about the process? Which midwife did you use? What is the process of registering the birth? Do you need to inform a hospital or doctor in advance before carrying out the home birth? When in your pregnancy did you start preparing for it? (I am sorry to bombard you with questions! I am just so encouraged by your response!!)
 
The registration is not a big deal, we had to go to the birth registry ourselves including me (but not the baby). We had to make an oath there. We had plenty of photos to show anyways and they were not suspicious. It could be that if you are from mainland China it is another story.

No doctor or hospital in Hong Kong is likely to support a home birth so there is no point informing them.
