Hi there, I'm Chinese and my husband is English, we've met

while I was working in London and we've been married for a

year, have a 3-month-old girl. I'm a full time mom but wouldn't

really mind if I go to work again when my baby is older. I'm in

HK at the moment and my DH is in Surrey, I was trying to go

back but postponed my plan since there was SARS and will go

back in around August. I'd love to stay in HK but my husband

just wouldn't. Anyway, it's really nice to find this site. I hope my

little baby - her name is Liberty will speak Cantonese and

English. I'm breastfeeding Liberty at the moment :breastfed and

just wondering is there a lot of moms breastfeed out there?

Hi Lavanda,

Welcome to GeoBaby!

D is a :breastfed baby. I tried weaning him at 7mths and wasn't successful. Tried again at 9 months and we made some progress and now at 12 months he's weaned!! YEAH!

Thanks for the info

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for the information. I'll try to come to the meeting in July. It's great to know that LLL is in HK too. If I have any questions, I'm sure I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Sandy

Dear rani,

Thanks for replying, I'm just wondering what sort of method did you use to wean? Was D really clingy coz he was breastfed? Did he want formula while you were breastfeeding him?

Thanks.

Sandy

Lavanda,

D really didn't like the taste of formula initially. I think he ended up accepting it because he preferred the bottle to nursing.

I started by replacing the last feed with formula. After a few weeks the lunch time feed. And a few weeks later the morning feed. I really didn't rush the weaning process as I was afraid of getting mastitis.

He was very clingy at one point. But now he's happy to be with other family members too and doesn't look for me.

Rani

Dear Rani,

Why did you try weaning D? Was there any reason to make you think of weaning? Were your family supportive about breastfeeding?

(sorry for asking so many questions..)

Sandy

Lavanda,

D didn't care for juices and so I tried giving him some formula so that if I was ever out I didn't have to rush home to nurse him.

I only started weaning him seriously when he got his upper teeth and it was just to painful to nurse.

Oh yes, my family have been very supportive.

Rani

Dear Rani,

I was so sorry to here that you had to cut short your breastfeeding experience because of the pain when your baby's teeth came through. Did you contact La Leche League?

I know from personal experience that they have many good ideas of what to do if a baby bites when breastfeeding. I was able to overcome the problem with my son quite easily and continue breastfeeding until he initiated weaning himself.

Best wishes,
Barb

Hi Barb,

My goal was to BF for only 6 months, and we made it to 11months! But I don't think I could have continued for much longer.

Rani

Hi Lavanda_fairy,

I was just wondering if you're still in HK, if so, would you like to meet for a chat / lunch as i am a full-time mother too? My daughter is 3mths old and still being breastfed. Her English name is Jade and her Chinese name is Suk Ching. My husband is Chinese born in UK.
