High risk at Queen Mary

Hello everyone. I am looking for more information about the high risk clinic at Queen Mary. I was recently categorized as "High Risk" from Tsan Yuk hospital due to being Rh negative. This was quite a surprise for me as where I am from in the US its not really a big deal!

Does anyone have experience with the high risk clinic that they would be willing to share? Or experience here as Rh -?

Specifically I am wondering;

-Is there a completely different "High risk" unit when I go into labor that I will be placed in at the hospital? If so, what are the differences from the normal unit?

-Are the appointment wait times at the QM high risk clinic similar to ones at Tsan Yuk?

-Are they more likely to recommend a C-section as a high risk patient? (due to the Rh -?)

Any other information or experiences would be so helpful! I know I will get excellent care at QM, but am just a little nervous with the lack of information available.

Thanks!! Amanda

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

The High Risk department is top-notch. You will be seen by the same Dr at each visit and he/she will most likely deliver baby too.

I am guessing as you'll probably need the RH shots, this may only administered by the senior Drs at QM and not Tsan Yuk.

QM only conduct C-sections if medically necessary. So if everything is going smoothly you will have a natural.

Wait times at QM can be just as long as Tsan Yuk, so bring a good book.

You have the best team taking care of you and baby. Try not to worry.

Hi Amanda,
I am RH- and read quite a lot about it. Very interested to hear if you heard any further information on that in regards to QMH. I have on Monday the first appointment where Ill be at QMH for the checkup, will be interesting. I think overall its rather a good thing, as you will have very good care there and you can always got t o the hospital in case of emergencies, even before 20 weeks. Would be good to connect!
