High chair

Time for our bubs to try solids. Anyone recommend a good chair for sitting her in. She is still quite young (only 4 months) but refuses to take a bottle so we are trying to wean her a little earlier (controversial I know).

Can't help myself today - replying to you again.

I have the Peg Perego high chair and I hate it ! It does recline, so would be ok for a non-sitting baby. Both my girls started solids after they could sit up.

If I was buying a high chair again I'd go for the plain white one from Ikea. There is no where for crumbs to get stuck and it is easy to wipe down and clean. Friends also like the Stokke Tripp Trap. Again, easy to clean. Neither of these recline.

If I was feeding a non-sitting baby, I'd just hold her with a towel draped over us both. Or perhaps prop her up on some cushions or a rocker with a towel to catch the mess.

Stokke has very good feedback; since I've only tried this one it seems to do the job very well. I've also seen good reviews for the ikea chair, which is much cheaper obviously, but not so much from an aesthetic pov, for what that may be worth.

Same goes for us...we love the white IKEA high chair too! It is inexpensive, easy to clean and does the job.

We also have a Preg Prego (like Jane01)...we started with that but now prefer the Ikea one.

i have the peg perego, but i love it. i would suggest that you start feeding her in a highchair, so that you don't have to wean her from eating on your lap.

I started to feed my daughter solids at 4-5mths as milk just didn't fill her needs. She had a mothercare reclining/rocking chair from birth and this was fine to start with. When she was stronger and could sit properly we bought a the (booster)seat with tray that attached to your own dining chair. She has had no problem with this at all and she now uses it with out the tray up at the table. I don't have room for a high chair and this was the perfect option.

I like feeding in either a low chair, or a car seat until they are able to sit upright (a towel is advised!) then move on to a simple and easy to clean high chair.

I have a Chicco one and I love it. I wouldn't be able to feed her if I didn't have a highchair. She just keeps moving around when sitting on my lap.

Regarding the Stokke, does anyone else find their baby slides down in it? My 16 month old always slouches down and ends up nearly falling out of it. We adjusted the wooden plates but he still does it.

I like the IKEA one, it's simple and basic. It doesn't have a tray, which means you have to use it at a table, but that's ok for us.

Love the Stokke. My daughter is petite and we've not had the same problem as hkaussie. The suggested configuration has a wooden slat so that bubs can put feet on it, but this means that she can effectively wiggle into a standing position.
We also started in a Bumbo but very easy to get out of and means you have to sit on the floor for feeding.
I guess no chair is designed to imprison your baby; IMO it's a balance between security, safety and training.
I highly recommend the Stokke. I like that we can eat together at the dining table. It's very easy to clean and looks nice.
In fact, if anyone has one they don't want, I'll need a second soon!

Hi there, I'm new here and I am looking also for a highchair. For my daughter I use the Chicco Happy Snack. Easy to handle, it can be fold away and easy to clean. For my son (he is almost 5 months) I am going to buy also a Chicco. I think it is gonna be the Polly. The Chicco highchairs are of a good quality

the IKEA plastic one has a tray, you have to pick it up seperately ($50). definetely gets my vote - sturdy & easy to clean.

Welcome.
Think I'm going to get the Stokke one. Know the Ikea one would probably be great but just like the look of the other one. Does anyone know where I can buy them (or anyone finished with theirs and fancy selling it on?).

We also started in a Bumbo (we borrowed it) before my daughter could sit on her own, and fed her on the floor.
We then got the Ikea chair . Love it. cheap, light and compact. Easy to take onto the roof for alfresco meals

You can get the Stokke in Mothercare or Western Trading, Wellington Street - the building next to Pacific Coffee. They have the whole range of colours of wood and cushions and you can carry it out there and then.
