Helper Pay Rise - HK$3,740

Just in case you missed the news. The Gov't has raised the Helper's min wage to HK$3,740 and food allowance was also increased to HK $775.

Does this apply to all currently employed domestic helpers or only those starting on new contracts?

Applies to new contracts processed from June 29th onwards.

Slightly out of context here, but does anyone know for how many months do agencies generally provide free replacement if the new Helper is not good. 1 month or 3 months?

I think it depend on the agency.... If I am not wrong, our agency (Sunlight Employment) provides 1 "free" replacement if we are not happy with our helper during the first year.

That's so interesting because I had no idea about the pay raise but felt I should give our helper extra money this month. Not that I'm "made of money" or anything but all I can think is "Good for them" because domestic helpers in HK are often worth their weight in gold and the economy here simply couldn't survive without them. We do owe them a lot.
