Help! My 15month Old Hates Sand!

Can ANYONE out there give me some tips on how to get our 'city baby' used to the sand and beach? She cries even when she stands on it with shoes on. I have taken her many times but to no avail. Anyone have a suggestion? THANKS!!
 
You could try starting small. Get an old washing up bowl and put sand in it for her to play with. That way she can play with just her hands instead of being overwhelmed by sand all around her. We used to have stacking cups when my children were younger and they make nice little sand castles.

Hi- I actually have tried this sort of thing, sandpits etc but she really really detests it! Thanks for your help anyway.

My son was exactly the same, he screamed the first time we put him on sand. We didn't do anything special really, just took it slowly and didn't make a big deal of it. He is now the biggest beach bum you could wish to meet and loves nothing better than spending the day at the beach.

I think because we were calm and matter of fact about the sand that this eventually rubbed off on him. It takes time, but with our son we tried not to make a big deal about it and in the end he didn't either.

Thanks for the tip. Thats exactly what I will do. I have actually just returned from the beach now, and I think she only cried about 80% of the time- a great improvement already. Back to the beach tomorrow!! She'll have to get used to it eventually! Thanks
