help a foreign mom choose a local primary school

Hi
Can anyone recommend a good local school for my son. We are looking at either Central area or New territory such as Tsing yi or Tung chung area.

Thank you Melohk and HKside, HKUGA has been mentioned to me before, but I hear that it's really difficult to get in, have you heard this too?
 
you are quite right but I will absolutely go for a try if I were you. During the interview, you should also equip yourself too because as I was told, the school grades parents performances.

If not, go try KCC (Aldrich Bay) School.

St. paul's convent primary school and Victoria primary school should be the better choice around Tin Hau.

thanks, but i heard st paul's is really hard to get into, first they reserve most of their places to students from their kindie and 2nd, they are private and you must write a letter promoting your child. has anyone been successful in applying?

Well I've come up with a couple choices of schools:

Public:
Christian Alliance C. H Chan Primary (Shatin)
Baptist Lui Ming Choi (Shatin Wai)
Ma On Shan Methodist (because nearby)

Diocesan Primary (my husband's choice...)

Direct Subsidy:
Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau (Shamsuipo)
HK Baptist Univ. Wong Kam Fai Primary (Shek Mun)

International:
ICS
Renaissance College (nearby, 1/3 taught in Mandarin)

I still am far from deciding which is best, though I need to apply this September!

I really wanted to find a truly local school, but I am starting to get worried about 1) whether I can communicate OK with the school and agree with things like lots of homework and 2) growing gap between me and my child as she gets immersed in the local HK society. My husband is not very hands on with the children's homework in kindergarten so I don't expect much for primary school either.

Would love to hear if any other foreign moms (maybe spouses of HK husbands like me) had a positive or acceptable experience with kids in local schools?

Have u decided yet?

You better think twice, before you enter local school! At least you are convienced with their way of Teaching! Not to mention that the Edu. Dept of HK Gov. keep chaning their policy every 2-3 years....

Otherwise, for good education system, reasonable price, a chance to learn Mandarin andclose to your home, etc..... Renaissance College seems alright! (to me!)
