Health Insurance Questions

I have seen a lot of questions about the costs of doctors, hospitals and especially childbirth. It makes me wonder if health insurance works differently than where I'm from, the US.

The typical health insurance provider here just charges a set copay for each visit, so it doesn't really matter how much the doctor or hospital is charging.

Is there something I should know about how healthcare or health insurance works in HK? We are moving in a few months.

Thank you!

There are several options available here in Hong Kong, most of these involve a co-pay which can be fixed or is a percentage with a maximum cap (specially for pregancy).

Pregnancy insurance also usually has a restriction of when you can start claiming (usually 12 months after you start your policy)

Take a look at Goodhealth which is explained on http://www.geoexpat.com/insurance and William Russell ( http://www.williamrussell.com.hk )
