Has anyone bottle fed and successfully switched to breast fed after 4mths?

My son was born 2.5mths premature and was bottle fed EBM from the get go. He was born with a tight jaw and was not able to open his mouth very wide so breast feeding was impossible. Now my son is almost 5mths (2.5mths corrected age) and he's able to open his mouth wider now. I am just about ready to give up pumping (I am down to 1 pump a day now) but would like to know if I can introduce the boob now? is it way too late? I've tried to put him on my breast a few times but it doesn't seem like he knows what to do. Should I keep trying? Any success stories, advice, or encouragement is really appreciated.

I was not exclusive with one or the other but my 1st DD was bottle feed (EBM) and Breastfeed from her first week. She had no problem with the two methods. You will have to teach hime - I would suggest finding a lactation nurse or the like to help the both of you.

Dear MilkMonster,

Sorry for the late reply - I've only just seen your post.

I have a video which shows you how to help your baby start breastfeeding after such a long time. Of course it isn't guaranteed but I believe that the method shown is the best way to try.

I would be very happy to show you the video and discuss the possibility of getting your little one to the breast. My e-mail is [email protected] and telephone is 2548-7636.

Best wishes,
SARAH.
