Hardened skin

Morning geomoms,

Ive just noticed this morning that my baby's skin under her chin is bright red, hardened and with some cracks. She has eczema and I use Bioderma PP cream to keep her skin moist, including her neck. Most of the area affected by eczema is bright red and dry but only under her chin is hardened. Does anybody have this experience? TIA

It's probably just extremely dry (from saliva?). A baby I cared for had eczema so we put a very thick layer of Cetaphil (from local pharmacies, ones sold in Watson's have different ingredients) on him each time after he falls asleep. Also put a layer of vaseline before feedings and meals and throughout day (on top of Cetaphil).

Excess drool due to teething? My baby got a rash on her chin and jaw when she first started teething. I just tried to keep the area dry and clean by blotting the drool often and changing bibs throughout the day. Moisturizer will help.

Yes everyone its a combination of drooling and eczema is not great. She was admitted to A&E for infection and had to stay in the hospital for two days. It damaged her skin that it started to ooze yellowish discharge. It was a really close call.
