all my local friends seem to get their helper to handwash their newborn's clothings. i did that for my 1st child (for 6mths), who is now 4. do any of you handwash newborn's cloths? and why is it? can i just wash them in one load with baby detergents?
i'm gonna have my 2nd baby soon, and is contemplating whether to handwash all of baby's clothings....

yes, i washed all of my son's clothing right from day 1 with non-bio detergent like Persil's. He went threw so many changing of clothing a day that hand-washing would seem silly for me.

there is no way you could PAY me to wash a newborn's clothes by hand! there is no point to it at all. it is probably cleaner to do it in the machine as the water can get hotter.

good luck!

I just washed my baby's clothes using Ecover detergent, and no softener... did not even think about hand washing them !!

I everything in the washing machine and used seventh generation gentle baby laundry detergent with no chemicals etc. The only handwashing that gets done is with very fine wools etc. - not often!

Never hand-washed baby clothes. I purchased the baby washing detergent because DD had skin problems so wanted a mild soap but it all still went in the washing machine and dryer. Would prefer the helper was playing with kids than hand washing!

My baby's cloth diapers are handwashed, other clothes are machine washed with milder baby detergent.

i would personally machine wash nappies. the water is MUCH hotter, better able to sanitise as well as better able to get ALL of the soap out. (not to mention having to hand wash the poop... don't think I could do that!)

just for curiosity's sake, why do you hand wash nappies?

funny how i lost this thread, couldn't find it to check all your replies. thx for all the input.

carang, thx for the well-wishes, i'm finally ready for my 2nd. i saw a friend changing her son's nappies the other day, and i thought "I can't believe I have to go thru ALL THAT again!!" ALL THAT meaning: bfeeding, nappies, waking at nite, weaning, expressing, bottles, potty training, teething, trying to get bb to sleep thru, & the list goes on......urghhh, what am i doing?!

btw, what is the difference between non-bio detergent & regular ones?

joannek... i WISH i could talk hubby into #3! i would happily go through it all again. (if i could convince him to adopt, i'd be EXSTATIC! i would get the best of both worlds! no pregnancy but a beautiful child anyway!)

Hi carang,

The nappies are handwashed, so i don't need to wait for a whole load to go into the washing machine!
