Good international or normal kindergarten in TKO?

Hi Nix23,

Thanks for your information.

We are thinking of applying for Mills International as well.

But we are concerned that it is not IB and it is a new school.

Would you mind sharing more information about the school?

My son currently goes to Learning Habitat in Lohas Park (we live in Lohas Park) but personally I don't really like the school.

Thanks.

Hi Victor,

I recently moved into Lohas Park too and I'm quite keen on sending my 1year old to Learning Habitat since its so near. Do u mind sharing on what u don't like about it? I'd hate to go through all the trouble with admissions then find out its not the type of school I'd really like my son to study at. Thanks for your info and advice!

Suzanne

Actually a lot of the parents like it. They do have their strong points.

I will try to summarize like this:

Positives:
- language teaching seems to be strong
- the teachers are nice with passion

Negatives:
- the classrooms are too crowded (28 students in a relatively small classroom)
- doesn't seem to allow the students to pick and choose (i.e. a 'forcing' type of teaching method)
- could be better if the students are allowed to be more independent
- homework every Friday (too much in my opinion)
- not multi-cultural (I think every student is a Chinese if I am not mistaken)
- no outdoor area for outdoor activities
- as there are too many students in a class (28 in total), the students aren't receiving enough individual attention in my opinion

It is my opinions only. If you ask some other parents, they may give you more positives than negatives. Feel free to whatsapp me to discuss more if you are interested (9618-8191)

Learning Habitat is a CMI school isn't it? Not an international school in that sense.

The EdB has clearly set standards for classroom size, number of windows, etc. in preschools/kindergartens. The problem, of course, is enforcement.

hi,
hello everyone. we came to hongkong just before 4 months now my son is 2year OLD. i want to put him in pre-nursery now. He wants to play with more kids. we are in TKO.please help me.should i have to wait for next academic year to start?????

For the more popular kindergartens, you'd probably have to wait. Though some might still have spaces especially in the afternoon slots. Try Box Hill (though parents have complaints about it, it might be a okay short-term option) or there's a new Greenville (or Greenfield, always get them mixed up) in Hang Hau. Also, Mills International opened in Yau Tong and since it's new should have spots - the facilities and teachers seemed really good, only it's a bit pricey.

Or you could enroll your kid in the playgroups run by YWCA in Ocean Shores, Tiu Keng Leng. My son went to the English one and I found it pretty good and super reasonably priced.

Oh, and also, you should go to your preferred kindergartens and apply for next year. My son's kindergarten, Deborah International, was already taking applications for the next year a couple of months ago.

Deborah is a very good place IMO; they have a huge facility with qualified & concerned staff and what may be the lowest tuition in the area. You and your child/children will be happy there.

Hi moms,

I am also searching playgroup for my daughter (14months) in TKO area.
I am hearing someone says about Greenfield..
Anyone have a reference about this school?

Thank you

We went to Greenfield (TKO) with our son for interview last year but we didn't like it (it is our opinion only).

Are you looking for local or international playgroup / kindergarten?

Off topics, but I'm selling a baby rocker, mobile, potty and bottle steriliser (posted in classifieds) for pick in Tiu Keng Leng, if any of you TKO parents are interested, PM me. Thanks!
