Going to India when pregnant?

Hello everyone,
Sorry to post yet another question, but your advice is always so helpful, so here goes!
We have been invited to a wedding in India at the end of January. Originally (before i was pregnant) we were really excited about this as we've never been, and were planning to make the most of it and take a week's holiday there. My husband is still keen to do this, but I'm a little worried, as most of my friends who have been there have had stomach problems of one kind or another, and I don't want to risk getting ill. I know the wedding itself will be in a good hotel in Delhi, but I'm unsure whether to travel around after that.
Has anyone else been to India when pregnant? I know a lot of it depends on being careful about what you eat and drink, which I always am, but having never been there I don't know how easy it is to avoid certain things. It seems a shame not to take the opportunity to go, but at the same time I obviously don't want to put my bump at risk. By the time we go I'd be just over 3 month's gone.
Any advice much appreciated!
Thanks,
UKLady

I went to Sri Lanka during the first trimester and just was super-careful. I always drank only bottled water or soft drinks (don't usually drink but didn't want to risk fruit juices or something with ice cubes). Didn't eat any cheeses or ice cream and took some snacks with me such as muesli bars, dried fruit, crackers etc. just in case. Would normally have loved to have tried lots of different foods but just took it easy and all was fine. We were given the usual advice of eating in established restaurants and not from street stalls, etc. as I am sure you will do too.

I would def take the opportunity to travel - your travelling fun will end with children, trust me! Maybe use it as an opportunity to tell your husband you HAVE to stay somewhere very nice!

Happy holidays xxx

I travel to Delhi a few times a year and have never been sick. Eat in the better hotels; there are 5 five-star hotles in Delhi, try them all.
Stay away from the street stalls and drink bottled water. Get your rest.
It'll cost you more but you shouldn't become sick.

thanks Turtle and Sleuth for your advice. We've decided to go for it and just to be careful. Roll on the holidays!!

My husband had booked a trip out to India before we realised I was pregnant, so we went nevertheless during the 2nd month. If you're in Dehli, stick to the 5 star hotels/restaurants., but really, The Imperial is the only place to be. I even had beef carpaccio there. The best I've ever had. No problems whatsoever.

hi,
well i have had more stomach probs after coming to HK than being in India....so just go ahead and enjoy y'self....just avoid eating out on the streets although the food can be quite yummy.....stick to bottled water and restaurant food and all will be fine!
