Hi,
I heared that as a non resident in Hongkong I can give birth at a government hospital as a public patient and the cost should be okay.
Does anybody have experience with this? Will I have to register at the hospital before and which hospital would you recommend? How are the costs? If my status changes by marriage before I give birth and I would get a permanent visa, would that change the amount the hospital charges or the the possibility to check in as public patient?
Any information is helpfull for me!
Thank you!

ok...

if youare here on a tourist visa, you need to pay big time... not much different than going to a private hospital

if you have a HKID, you pay a pittance as a public patient... you can still go private, but it costs big time

Thanks - can you just give me more information on how it works as a public patient and what it is like?

my suggestion would be to do a search for this topic as it comes up very frequently. or maybe rani can provide some links to previous threads....

good luck!

I gave birth at Queen Mary. As a resident here I only had to pay HKD100 per night plus HKD50 admission. It really isn't worthy to go private if you want to go the natural way. Spend the difference on your sweet baby or give yourself a treat at a beauty parlour!:)
