Does anyone know if there is any german-speaking playgroups or anyone who is willing to teach a todder German. My daughter is 15 months old

Hi Caterina,

I just received the following reply from the HK Goethe-Institut.

The German Speaking Protestant Church in Hongkong
organizes german playgroups once a month: http://www.kirchehongkong.de/

there is a german kindergarten for children that are already three years old, the kindergarten of the german stream of the German Swiss International School http://www.gsis.edu.hk/

Thanks Rani for the Information. I have also made some enquires with the institute in Hong Kong. They are not able to recommend any German teachers who teach toddlers German. I will probably contact the playgroup, but as they only meet once a month it will not be sufficient for serious language learning.
Does anyone know of any German software for toddlers? I myself know nothing about German, so I really have to rely on recommendations.

Caterina,

You can start your own playgroup. We do have a German mum here - Marta. And we met another German mum at the Matilda Toddler Group with a daughter the same age as yours.

I don't know of any software, but there are some books and CDs for kids. Let me me know if you're interested and will send you more info.

Caterina,
I am German myself and have a 4 month old baby. What nationality are you? Chinese? I'd be happy to meet and talk/ play with your toddler in German if you teach my baby Chinese:-))
If that doesn't appeal to you, there are quite a few ladies in the German Speaking Ladies Group with children of your toddler's age (www.gslg.de).

Ladies,

I got another email today from Sybille Deselaers at the
Goethe-Institut

I called the German Swiss International School and they told me that they tried to initiate german speaking play group as part of their afternoon activities programme. If you are interested
in participating when they can offer something please
leave your contact dates with
Afternoon Activities Coordinator, Mrs Petra B?uerle
Tel: (852) 2825-8158
Fax: (852) 2825-8170
Email: [email protected]

I am just wondering if there is a reason you want your child to learn German? Is your husband German? If so, he can speak to your child in German. I think lots of people do this at home in the hope that the kids will be either bi or trilingual.

Dear Janine,

Thanks for your reply.
I am a Chinese. Although Cantonese is my first language. I am fluent in Mandarin and willing to try to teach your baby either of the two dialects.

And grateful for referring the link to me.

I am not familiar with communicating through the chatroom. Do I leave my number here or do you have any proposal as how we can contact each other?

I know no one who speaks the language. We are therefore helpless.

Thanks for your suggestion. How can I contact the ladies named in your reply to see if they are interested?

As for CDs, can you send me the info? Books are not useful to me, as I know not a single word of German.

German/English Playgroup

Hi,

I stumbled across this forum re. German playgroup (way back in 2003) and I wonder if one was up and running?

Many thanks!

Hi,

I'd love to have one but I work fulltime so either my Mum or my helper would have to take my son.

Anyone else out there interested - lets see the interest

Do you know any German Mom or German Kindergarden Teacher who might be interested in orgainzing such kind of playground. The German I once contacted had left HK already.

German Teacher/Playgroup

Hi Everyone,
I am not sure why the other threads re German playgroups didn't show up for you. I have (and others) posted quite a number of messages regarding German Teaching, Playgroups and Pre-school in the past and most recently.
I guess, if you click on German, you might find them all, or maybe click on my name?
I am a teacher and a tutor for German and my youngest daughter is 9 years. I teach kids and adults of all ages. I have always run a German playgroup for toddlers and have a library of German toys and books, etc. Also, there was a German playgroup which will now be relocated closer to Central and will start again beginning of Dec. I will post the details here soon. Please watch out for it or contact me directly by private messaging.
Hope this helps. Birgit
