Fun with Felt--Where to Buy Supplies?

Hi thanka2,

I just started making hair bows for my daughter and came across wool felt designs and I felt in love with them too.

Check our etsy.com and you'll find lots of cute stuff.

I've made a small heart using wool blend felt with a tiny heart button for hair clips but still waiting for the alligator clips to arrive because I can't find them here in Hong Kong :(

Btw, I found the wool blend felt on the street in Central where they sell ribbons.

Hope it helps!

What street is that, Meow Meow?

I don't know what your etsy site is. How can I look at it? I don't have a little girl so hair bows wouldn't really fit. :)

the street next to Watsons?? there're a few stairs?? sorry i forgot the name of the street. They also sell costumes, buttons, etc..

hi, i found stainary shops have felt material and also go to sham shui po to find these things. Plenty of material is there ...just go and look .

I'm sorry, Meow Meow, I have no idea what shop or streets you're referring to. I don't live in Central--very far from there so I would need at least a street name. So, if anyone can remember, please let me know.

Manya, about Sham Shui Po (still a bit on edge to go there after that little boy got chopped to death in broad daylight there!)--what is the name of the street. I will not just go to Sham Shui Po unless I really know where I'm going and what I'm looking for. I would love to check it out. What is then name of the street?

www.esty.com- you can sell and buy hand made goodies.
street next to watson is call pottinger street.
you can buy felts from The Lanes opposite H&M, two parallel street markets, on one side of the market are fabric store.
Jusco in Wan chai was selling felts for $10 don't remember what size they where.
You can also try Wing wo street next to The Center there's a market there too which sells all sort of beeds and stuff.

any of you guys want to start a sewing club?

Hey YTV, that would be fun but honestly, I don't sew. I don't have a clue, actually. I just thought that the felt food would be a good start for me as it requires hand whip stitching which I can manage. Do you sew?

Hi YTV, you're super!! thanks for all the information. I'm just a beginner at making handmade hair accessories (bows on clips) for girls using grosgrain ribbons. What do you sew??

lol, I'm not a very good sewer, but did do some sewing cause in the UK. I can use the sewing machine, just not super in making clothes. Always wanted to make my own clothes. been looking for causes in HK for over 3 years. Every time I enroll in one they cancelled on me.
I have one more place I'm going to enroll in this September, Tailoring, it's in Cantonese though and my Cantonese is not great but can get by.
I was thinking of doing a craft club for ages but can't think of how to solve a few problems. may be you girls can help me figure it out.

If I start a sewing club,

1) how do I solve the problem of the hassle of bringing your own heavy sewing machine to a venue?
2) if I provide locker space for your sewing machines which means that people don't have to lob the machine around for each get together, what if you want to do some sewing at home? Still means you have to take it back and forth.
3) I could buy a bunch of sewing machine for the club but don't have the money to buy about 10 machine.
4) I need to hire some one who can teach us how to sew at least for 1 or two classes so we can get some expert advise.

we could start off by doing hand sewing then see if anyone would like to do more.
I have a friend who knows how to sew and make clothes and pattern cutting not sure if she wants to teach.
I also know someone how can make clothes, bag etc but she cant speak English, I guess I could translate.

what do you guys think? worth doing?

Place to buy all things Crafty

Hi Thanka & YTV,

New to the forum, saw your thread and caught my eye; I love crafts, and discovered this shop in KOWLOON BAY; it is in the megabox mall. There really isn't much going on in that shopping center, except that it has this HUGE store dedicated to homeware, crafts, bath and body. It's called SPOTLIGHT.

you can check it out, my guess is Spotlight

there you would find aisles and aisles of craft goods! it's like a WALMART. But, i think the store originated from Australia. HOpe this helps.

honestly, there is nothing wrong with sham shui po. the boy you are refering to, i believe, was killed by his father... could have happened anywhere in hk. the man was crazy...had nothing to do with where they were.

i shop for beads, material, buttons etc all the time. i go quite often as my in laws live in gov't housing there. i've NEVER felt unsafe.

The boy was killed by the neighbor who lived below the family while the father tried to protect him. Yes, he was crazy. Still, I feel uneasy about going there and I would not go there unless I knew exactly what street and place I was going to. I don't wish to wander around there. It's a personal uneasiness so I do hope that someone can post a specific address/place for me to go look. Thanks.

sorry, i got the news 2nd hand via my husband and he couldn't remember the details.

it's difficult to post a specific address as there are hundreds of shops selling material, and hundreds selling beads etc.

personally, i find the wandering around to be the fun part.

if i have time, depending on when you wanted to go, i'd be happy to take you.

i especially like the market streets in sham shui po. when i was pregnant, i bough 90% of my "necessities" for the baby there at a ridiculously low price.

libbyfab, if you like spotlight you def like Sham shu po, it's a lot cheaper and a lot more varisty, the only problem is. I can never remember where the bliming shops are!
I always get lost there.

Dear Thanka2,
I've been collecting pictures off the internet of felt food and playthings for a while too. I'd love to make them. Let me know if you'd ever like to meet and make a few. I've even bought a set of instructions from ebay or etsy (can't remember which) from a lady in Australia! best, Laura

YTV- yes, i'm aware of SSP. i get lost there everytime! The street i go to, usually only has beads, ribbons, crystals, fabrics, some semi-precious stones. Are we talking about the same street? or could there more hidden gems i don't know about?

Since we're on the topic of crafts- does anyone know where i can get materials to make a fascinator? I can't remember the specific term for the material, but its like bendable gauze like fabric.
