I am looking for French playgroup for my son (2.75 years old) and my daughter (7 months). I found one in Causeway Bay, but scheduling not right. Does anyone has other suggestions?

I heard there's one in Pok Fu Lam but not sure where exactly.
Will see if I can get details.

Funny enough, my son is French and plays with other French kids (all between 2 to 3 years old) and guess what...they play together in English.
Somehow, in their heads, english is becoming the language of playtime.

No solution to your question but may be you wanted to know.

Wonder why the French kids would speak English when they play. They pick up the language from their parents, caregiver, teacher, friends or TV perhaps? It's interesting. Like my daughter, she's Chinese but she prefers speaking English because my husband and I speak English with her. She switches to Cantonese when she talks to her grandma though and it comes naturally.

I don't think it is the caregiver.
My son speaks an excellent French (both parents are French) with us even when we play.

But he switches to what in needs when he needs it. It comes from kindergarten and public playgrounds: when kids meet and want to play the use of english makes sense so step by step they associate games and english and they don't need much vocabulary for that.

The kids of two when they meet don't tell each other: "Hi, what do we speak today...French or English...?" They just start and English comes...

When my son is going to France he would need to adjust few days because, strangely enough, english words will come first when he is in trouble: Don't push, stop that...

Interesting I find

Where is this playgroup in Causeway bay? Suzanna, can you give details.

I wonder where the "French" children are playing, because I would love to give some exposure to my son of other languages.

Does anyone go down to the outdoor playground in Happy Valley at the weekends?

That was originally a plan of a place called Little Dynamites. However, my understanding is that since there is not enough people, the class has not started yet. My son and daughter are both attending other classes there. I can check again and get back to you.

Instead of playgroup, you may try a Montessori Learning Centre at the Metropolis Mall. Lessons are taught in English or French. The phone number is 3162-0585.

I would also like to know if anyone knows of any French clubs for older children. Mine are aged 5 and 7 and we were living in France before arriving here in August, so both have been educated in French upto know. I notice that they are losing their French fast and I would really like to keep it up. They are going to an English school here. We live in the NT so I would like something not too far away if possible.
If anyone knows of anything I would love to hear about it.
Thanks
Angela

There is a language institution at Admirlty, I have heard. But I have not yet visited or tried. I think it is called Hong Kong Language Institue??

French playgroup

No the one in admiralty is called the Beaumont language institute. And they do french playgroup for young children if there are enough of them to warrant making a class.

Hi
Can anyone recommend a French Playgroup for 2-3 yrs old? I've tried a place in Causeway Bay but looking for a bigger set-up and scheduling doesn't work. Any leads appreciated.
Merci!

I have not checked out HK Institute of Languages yet, (plan to do so later on this week) but have heard good recommendations. Their website seems to suggest that they may have what I am looking for. I had the children in Charlotte aux Fraises at Wise Creative but since their change of location, and now change of teacher, I am looking for a new place.

If you have found anything else, please let me know, as I am also interested, and I will post back my impressions of HKIL.

Hi,

We're new to HK and we have a 14 month old daughter and expecting another one soon. I am also interested to take her to a french playgroup (my husband is french and I speak french too). Kindly let me know if any of u found something interesting..... thanks !!!

Is anyone interested in getting an informal french playgroup together? My son is 19 months and I have just started speaking french to him.

I would be interested in a French playgroup, informal or otherwise. My children are 2.5 & 4.5.

Related: I contacted HK Institute of Languages but the only playgroup for francophone children (at least one parent speaks French) from 3yo-6yo meets on Saturday mornings, which is inconvenient for us. Would anybody be interested in a 1.5h playgroup on a week-day afternoon, starting at 3:30 or 4pm? Please call HKIL or email [email protected] and perhaps we can set something up.
