Can you buy flour in 5 pound bags in HK? Can you buy baking powder and baking soda at all?
We have been looking in various grocery stores and at first we assumed we had just missed it but then started looking harder and still couldn't find it.
I've bought baking powder online from park 'n shop. Not sure about the big bags of flour, but check out their website, delivery is free for orders over $400. Wellcome delivers too.
You can get baking powder and soda in the supermarkets, its usually by the cake mixes. Flour usually comes in 1kg boxes. You can also order online from Baking Warehouse
Olivers & Gateway carry 5 lb white flours, I've also bought 5 lbs Wheat flours from Citysuper. Baking soda, I use the Ideal brand sold in Park N Shop under bicarbonate soda (if I'm wrong in using this product then I haven't noticed the difference yet. ). The package is a little tube with a yellow insert.
I have also been buying baking soda (bicarbonate soda) and baking powder from Wellcome supermarket. I tend to buy several packet of flour at a time... Park'n'shop does a 1.5kg organic flour for about the same price as the non-organics.
I have bought both "USA baking powder" and "bicarbonate of soda" from PNS. Does anyone know the difference? If I come across a recipe for "baking soda", which one of them should I use?
Thanks!
Thanks for the help. We also found 5 pounds of flour, the baking powder and soda (although called "bicarbonate of soda"--those Brits have to have a different word for everything) at City Super in New Town Center, Shatin.
