hi everyone.....

just went to shop for a shoe at Dr. kong shoe shop few days back, and my child was said to have a flat foot....!!!!!!!!

I am now told to visit some special doctor9 dont remember what are they called) who treat these kind of problems...and they make special inner soles to relieve that pressure or pain arising from the flat foot.....!

Does anyone know anything about this ? thanks in advance for your replies....

:thanks

is there a heal for flat foot? Mine are flat but I never had any problems, or pain... well except they look flat and huge!

You don't say how old your child is. All children are flat footed, since it takes a while for the arch to form. If I listen to my two year old walking across the floor, it's a real 'slap-slap' sound as her arches are yet to develop.

I think they recommended a podiatrist who specialises in feet. If you are concerned then certainly take them along, but as I say if your child is young then having flat feet is quite natural.

Thanks to your replies....

Nope...they say flat foot cannot be healed...but we yet to hav to take him to the dr and check it out....

My son is 6 years old....surprisingly....i never noticed it before...i didnt even know that such a thing exists....also i didnt know the kids are born with flat foot and that as they grow....they get that arch...

But it is disappointing to find such a problem in my child...i feel worried about him...

lets see what the dr has to say...

Thankyou once again

Does your child use shoes with arches in the insoles? My husband used correctional shoes when he was a child and my mother-in-law told me she regretted it because he hated the shoes. They were heavy and very hard and affected how he walked (that was 30+ years ago though - shoe technology has come a long way since then).

Anyway, she suggested to just get shoes with arches (nike runners, etc) for the kids which I did. Don't know if that helped but they do not have flat feet.

Our family doctor did confirm that all children have flat feet and they should just be encouraged to walk on tiptoes (which my kids naturally did as part of their play) to develop their arches.

You might want to get a second opinion too..Dr. Kong is a shoe retailer and there is a conflict of interest there - they want you to buy shoes, and the more expensive the better..

flat feet

Perhaps a bit besides the point of flat feet, but I just would like to point out the quality of shoes at Dr Kong is terrible, don't buy any shoes in there, they start to tear in first month and by 3rd month you have to buy a new pair!!

Just go and see a chiropractor. The best one I think is Dr. Decker/Dr. Nealy at The Chiropractic Centre in Central, Tel:2973 0353. Have had excellent results. Don't mind if you wish to mention my name. Birgit.
