First One!?

Hi Cherry, Thanks for the information. I went to see Dr Amelia Wong on Sat, she is quite nice and speak perfect English. She told me to let her know as soon as decided to give birth in HK as the hospitals tend to book out quite early. I had my first scan on Sat, it was very emotional for my husband and I. I can totally relate to all your feeing, we could hear the baby heart beat which was unbelievable. I was so excited, emotional and nervous at the same time. The assistant nurse tried to take my blood pressure twice soon after the scan but my blood pressure was quite high, she had to take another test after I calmed down hehe….The doctor gave me a due date, I will be due on 9th July 2010. I need to go back in 2 weeks time for blood test and ultrasound.

Have a joyous Xmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Hello, It is just amazing seeing the heart beat isn't it - if you're due on the 9th July you've nearly made it to the 12 week mark, which must be a great feeling for you.

I was wondering, when you went to see your doctor did she do any tests on you? My doctor hasn't taken my blood pressure, weighed me or asked about my partners family history or anything, and he has said that the only tests that I will need are the 12 week ones to check for Downs Syndrome and other chromosomal disorders. Has this been your experience?

I just want to make sure that I'm not missing something important by seeing this particular doctor.

Thanks

Hi Cherry

I am the same, I only had scan on my first appointment. The doctor gave me few important appointment dates that I can’t miss. I need to go back in two weeks time to have more intensive checkup, she mentioned that I will need blood test, down syndrome test and ultra sound. She also recommends flu injection. By the way, is it common to have the down syndrome test?

Have you told anyone about your pregnancy? I found it hard not being able to tell anyone. When eating out with friends, I have to come up with excuses for not eating sashimi, salad, raw food and seafood. I went shopping in HK yesterday and bought few loose fitting clothes, I am struggling to fit in any of my jeans, pants or skirts now! Is it just me or can you all still fit in your jeans? By the way, do you know where I can get maternity work skirt? I found that if I wear tight fitting clothes, my morning sickness will get worst. My morning sickness is easing off now which is great but I am still struggling to brush my teeth in the morning and night.

By the way, are you currently taking any pregnancy vitamins? I am currently taking folic acid and the doctor told me to continue, she told me that there is no need for me to take pregnancy vitamins until later on. Do you know where you can get pregnancy vitamins without vitamin A in it?

I just threw up on the floor of a restaurant! I thought I didn't have morning sickness until today - I was sooo sick all day and then... bam!! So embarrassed!! I never had that with my first.

I'm already starting to show a little, but I think you can only tell if you know I'm pregnant. It's sooo early to be showing - with my first, I was this shape around probably 15-16 weeks!! But I'm only 9 weeks now! My clothes are getting tight already.

I've been taking prenatal vitamins since before my first was born - I take the brand "Materna".

I'm away for Christmas so hopefully the sickness doesn't continue as bad as it was today! I want to have a great holiday!! My next scan is the 12 week one - I think they can see on the ultrasound whether there are indicators of downs... but I think the only way to be 100% sure is amniocentesis. I personally don't want one of those though!!

Merry Christmas everyone! And all the best with starting to head into the 2nd trimester (I'm already counting down the days...)

Hi mums to be !
I'm due with my second one on the 6th July (very close Khorana !!), my first one being 2 yo now, who is already borned in HK. We have no helper at the moment, but if we manage to get one in the next few months, I hope I can get some time free to meet some of you !
About the questions for Down syndrome, it's generally proposed to mums who are 36 and over, and if all the factors are not good : family history, age, scan, % on blood test too low... doing it or not is a very personal choice.
My doctor always take my blood pressure and weight (I could skip the weight though ;) but it's always better to make sure you take enough or not too much weight. Blood pressure is very important to check, on all close to the delivery.
I wish you all to enjoy your pregnancy and a Happy New Year !!

i have my scans done at the Hong Kong Prenatal Diagnosis Centre ????.

My appt was at 12 and I saw the doctor at 12:15 and left 25mins with a scan done, blood test for down syndrome done (with results) and a DVD of the scan. I was shocked! I will be going back again for my 20week scan and probably an amnio for down syndrome, just because my blood test at my own doctor gave me a ratio of "89" whilst Dr Lam at this centre was "385" which he reassured was "normal".

Anyhow, they have a lab there and in fact the doctor I see sends my blood to this centre for testing, so I am sure they are very reliable. I paid $1000 for all the scan and blood test...

the diagnosis centre is in Central...

Hi Ladies!
I'm going to be a new mom in July - been in HKG for 4 years and originally from Canada. Would love to get a group together for a meet up - are you meeting already?

I don't know if some meeting are already organised, but I can propose something if some of you are free. As I already have a little boy, I can only look for some places where kids can play... what would you think of the coffee place in the Tree shop in Horizon Plaza in Ap Lei Chau ? They have a small choice of cakes and make some tea/coffees/drinks, it's quite comfy and they have a small playroom for kids. Would Friday 15th around 2pm be convenient for some of you ?
If you are interested, please send me a pm, and I'll keep the post updated.
Hope to meet you soon, and that everyone is feeling good !

I'm interested, but Ap Lei Chau is so out of the way for me!! I also have a little one so meeting where kids can run around suits me - my girl can last about an hour in a coffee shop/restaurant on a good day!! I'd prefer a coffee shop than to go to ALC though... Another alternatives could be a walk in the park (Victoria park or Quarry Bay... my girl is happier while moving, and there are plenty of places to stop while the kids can play too)... ?

I can meet up on the 15th and I can travel to wherever is convenient for those of you with little ones.

I had morning sickness at 2am on new years day - so unfair to be the only one not drinking, and still ending up being the one with their head down the loo in the wee hours. Typical! I hope you're all feeling well.

I don't mind going to Victoria Park, if the weather is not too bad... and if it turns bad (the weather, not the meeting ;)), we can still end with a coffee at Cafe Deco on top of Ikea !
Sorry for your anecdote Cherry, but I confess it made me laugh !!

Hi All,
Wow - this group has really grown! I'm glad i finally got the guts to start this thread!

I work full time, but am flexibile so would be keen to join in on the 15th and meet you all!
Also happy to travel where is convenient for bubs. Keep me informed on what you all decide to do.

Also - in the event that there are mums to be around central that work f/t and can't make the 15th and would like to catch up - i live in Midlevels and would happy to catch up for a coffee during a lunch time/after work/weekend also....

Chat soon!

So when are you guys all free? Next week is looking pretty busy for me already - but the week after, I'm free any day except Friday...

Hi Ladies

I'm going to be a first time mum and am due on the 22nd of July, just gone 12 weeks today!

Would love to meet up with you guys to share and swap info and thoughts..

Am working fulltime, but am keen to meet where ever and whenever if I can!

How about the 18th, 19th or 20th? Anyone want to meet one of those days? Best time for me is afternoon since my daughter sleeps from 11-2ish... does that suit anyone else??

I would have loved to, but these 3 days are already full for me :( But if there is another meeting any time soon, on a date and place which suits you, count me in !
In between, if some of you are free on the 15th, I'll be at Tree shop anyway, around 1.30pm.
For those who don't know Horizon Plaza, it's on Ap Lei Chau, the little island in front of Aberdeen. The easiest is to take a taxi, from Central, through Pokfulam or Aberdeen Tunnel, with a normal traffic, it takes around 20 to 30 mn. It's not the "sexiest" building, but it has lots of shops like Bumps 2 Babes, Baby Cake, Toys Club, Viva Italia...
Tree is on the 28th floor, you just have to cross the whole shop and you'll see a cosy cafeteria at the end.
And hopefully we can make another meeting soon which is more convenient to all of us :D

I'll come over to Ap Lei Chau on the 15th. I've been meaning to visit Horizon Plaza ever since I arrived in HK, but have never quite got round to it. It'll be good to meet you, and anyone else who can make it.

I am away that week unfortunately ;-(
However, would love to catch up the week after or at a later stage. Maybe somewhere central if that is convenient.
Also hoping that some of you would like to come over to Stanley when it is getting a bit warmer. Contact me if you are in the area ;-) I always have time for a juice or whatever you like ;-)
