First birthday party

Hi Nikki!
Great cake!!! And Antonia is such a lady....
I want to make one for Lukas' first birthdyay, too. How did you make the frosting? It is esp. great. Do you think I can make light blue (instead of the pink...) and what did you use?
Hope you read this post before 23.Feb.....

Regards
Marta
By the way: Lukas started to walk. See picture (if attching it works)

I tried making the cake (from the First Year recipe) and was very disappointed. The cake didn't rise very much, and I was half expecting that from using solely whole wheat. anna: How did you make your cake rise so nicely? Any tips please? Thanks so much.

By the way, I tried making the apple-cranberry cubes from the same book, and really liked it. It was easy to make and resulted well.

Hi Rani!
Sorry, didn't think it is very interessting...stupid me. Cake was actually not too bad...very healthy of course, therefore not really my thing (I like the one with chocolate). But Lukas and the other children (and some health concious parents, too) did really like it. Next time I leave out the raisins for the frosting. It made it a little bit "uneven". And I will pay more attention to the measurements, to which I'm not used anyway (pound and cups....?), this will make the gelatine-part easier.
Re. the decoration: well, I left it rather simple since I stayed up till 2 a.m. to finish everything and I did not have the patience the next morning to do some extravaganca....

(I try to attach 2 pics.)

regards
Marta

I think I can attach only 1 picture....

Wow! Those cakes look so great! I feel inspired!

My question is where can I find reasonably priced party decorations, like hats, balloons, streamers etc.

Thanks!

I bought something (don't know the proper name: flags on a line?) in Wellcome. It's cheap and Lukas teared off all the flags anyway.... so no crying because of money. Not so cheap but great choice: one shop in Prince's Bldg. (on 3rd floor).
And maybe toy's club or so in Horizon Plaza?

That's absolutely awesome! I'm so proud of you guys... Man, don't we have some aspiring bakers in this chat room! I wish I could do half as well.

Dhruv is a lucky child.

Thank you all, I've read all the postings on this thread with much interest. All the cakes look so inspirational! I'm almost tempted to bake my daughter a birthday cake when she turns 1 in September.

I'm thinking of organising a party for her 1st birthday, but unfortunately we don't have a big apartment nor any area in our apartment building to host a party. Will look out for a 'relatively inexpensive' place to hold the party. If we have a party, I'll definitely try the recipe Rani gave.

Can u tell me where do u get the Barney pan? Can I buy it through the website? Where can get all the ingr. for the cake
And is it difficult to make the cake cause I never bake a cake before. Thanks

I bought the pan on Ebay in the US. But you can borrow them now from Complete Deelite in Central. Cost is $50 for 2 days. Cake is really easy too, buy the Betty Crocker Cake Mix from ParknShop. You'll need 2 boxes. I got the Super Moist Chocolate. YUMMY! Decorating takes a bit of time. Compelte Deelite has the icing kits.

Here's the link for Complete Deelite

SCR,

Wow! You did an amazing job! We're going to make D cake again this year. Right now I think its going to be Bob Builder/

invite friends - they don't have to be babies! have a cake with a candle - even if you buy it. If there are other babies present, just have regular toys for them to play with. Take lots of photos...!
