Finger food

When can you start introducing finger food. I let my 8 month old try a bit of our marmite on bread the other day and she was sooo enthusiastic. Got me thinkig. What other good finger foods could I use?

My son loves vegemite on his toast too, just watch the sodium levels at that age though. You can also try steaming various veggies and serving them cool with dips - try hommus (very nutricious) or home-maked guacamole or even yoghurt or cream cheese...you can do the same with toast!

I think brown/wholemeal is generally better but have to watch out for salt content/sodium and additives..

Rice cakes - they have baby sized cakes available at most stores that sell baby stuff.

Boiled baby carrots.

My baby (now 14 months) never liked me feeding her, she preferred to feed herself. At 8 months I would toast the bread. Fresh bread can get a bit chewy/lumpy which is hard when you have no teeth.

My bub also liked any soft fruit cut up (watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, pears). You could also try a small pasta like macaroni. Rice is very, very messy. Steamed vegies until they are very soft. Sultanas.

If your bub is fine with bread you could try muffins.
its crumbly so that it doesnt get too lumpy like bread can.
You can make both savory (veg and cheese) or sweet fruit.
my baby loves picking out little bits of sultana up with her fingers and putting it in her mouth.
