finding out sex of baby

hi, i just want to find out in hong kong how many weeks do you normally find out the sex of the baby? I know its much earlier than most countries tell

it has nothing to do with the countries... it has to do with the equipment available.

they can usually make a fairly good guess by 15 weeks or so, but of course, the later you leave it the more accurate it will be.

We learned ours around week 22. It could have been done earlier, but that's how our appointments fell.

I know my first one at 12 weeks and couldn't get the confirmation until 18 weeks for my second. ( both with the same Dr.)

our doc said that she strongly suspected our baby's gender at 14 weeks, but couldn't tell for sure until he was 17 weeks

my husband had a colleague whose ob was '100% positive' that they were having a girl -- and was quite surprised when a boy popped out!

good luck

I think you can positively id a boy, but with a girl you can never be sure. Is it a girl, or can't you find the right angle?

If you have a 3d/4d scan then the dr can say with quite a great deal of accuracy wether boy or girl.....the first 3d/4d scan in HK is usually at around 19-20 weeks when you have the fetal abnormality scan, if you choose to have that.

With our son, our dr told us around 14 wks he thought it was a boy, and then that was confirmed by 3d scan at 20 weeks and then again at 32 wks.

With 2nd one I wanted to ask at last appoint., 16 weeks, but as my husband was unable to come too decided to wait until 3d scan at 19 wks so we could find out together and be more sure.

i found out at 14 weeks with my son, through hong kong prenatal diagnostic centre - they "apparently" have the best scanning system in HK, they even took a photo to prove it was a boy!

Two pregnancies here, ultrasounds at HK Prenatal Diagnostics at 12 weeks exactly, gender identified. Both times Dr was 99.9% sure he was correct, and indeed he was.

Don't be put off by friends "back home" telling you it's not possible to know so early! These guys have the latest and greatest equipment and are very experienced obstetricians doing the scans, which makes all the difference.

Good luck with your pregnancy.
