Fever in first trimester...

Hi to all mums & mums-to-be out here...

I'm at week 9 & unfortunately just recovering from an upper respiratory track infection. I had battled with on-off fever (low-mid grade around 38.3C/101F) for 4 days during my 8.5-9 weeks timings.

My understanding is that fever during 1st trimester is very dangerous for the baby (vs 2nd & 3rd trimester) and that week8/9 is prime time for brain etc development. My fever was so bad and I had no choice but to take Paracetamol on and off whenever the temp went over 38C/100F else the high temperature may do even more harm.

Although I'm slightly better now, I'm freaking out :(( because there were definitely times my temperature has soared over 38C/100F and I had not had the paracetamol (e.g. before I was seen by doc/when asleep etc).

I just wonder if there are any mums out there or know someone who had fever in the first trimester and baby turns out all okay?

Also, does anyone have flu vaccination in their first trimester?

Thx so much xx

Hello poppyseed
Sorry to hear your unwell during this time. Did your doc tell you is very dangerous to the baby with a fever at this time?? What did your OB say?

And I had my flu vaccination when I was about 27 weeks....my OB told me is recommended.
But always check with your current doctor for most up to date information!

Thx loveisgood :) My OB said keep the temperature down as temp above 38C is harmful... so I was just freaking out because I'm sure there must have been several times it was over 38.... and i kinda put the 2 together (week 8 = brain development) and got even more worried... I didn't know anyone who has fever at 1st trimester, most have in 2nd or 3rd when apparently it matters less... I'll ask about the flu vaccination next time I go...
