Eye Exam for Helper - Need Advice

Can anyone recommend a place where I can send my helper for an eye exam? She has been having problems with her eyesight and I suspect it is more than just a case of needing new glasses. Her vision is partially obstructed by black so I would like to help her get a proper check-up and to see if this is something we can help her get corrected. I also need to know how serious this is since I have a very young baby and would like everything checked out before we sign a new contract with her!

our previous helper had the same issues and we just asked her to go to a local optician- any one of her choosing, where she ended up getting an exam and suitable eyeglasses. i don't think you need to worry about a specific place, as any eyeglasses shop will have an optomalogist on hand to administer examinations and prescribe the right lenses. in our case because we live in saikung, she just went to choi hung (our nearest shopping center), found a shop, got the exam done, and came home with HK$300 glasses that she really liked. the insurance we bought for her covers her vision so it was no skin off my nose.

If I take her to an eyeglass store, do you think they can diagnose bigger issues that can't just be corrected with glasses? I am afraid she may have bigger problems since it sounds like part of her vision is obstructed. Or is their main interest in selling glasses?

You could send her to the GP with a view to getting a referral to an eye specialist. It sounds like she might have a more serious eye problem like cataracts or macular degeneration.

Try Polyvision. Took my son 3.5 yr. old son there. They screen you for eye diseases as well as general eye tests.
