Extreme Pelvic Pain - Physio needed

I'm 32 weeks and in the last 4 days developed really painful pelvic pain when I walk. I'm fine sitting down or not moving, but as soon as I walk it's so painful.

Can anyone recommend a physio or chiro that can help? I've read that sever pelvic pain can be long term, and may result in a C.. any referrals would be greatly appreciated as I want this fixed before I deliver.

I had pelvic/lower back pain as well throughout my pregnancy and saw Panda Li at Physiomotion. She specialises in this type of physio and I found her fantastic. You could also try Julie, she's great. Don't worry it's probably just all the hormones loosening your hips and pelvis out rather than a long-term thing. Hopefully they'll get you in better shape and your delivery will go smoothly!

There are quite a few places! Physiocentral in the Universal trade centre on arbuthnot road and then there's sports and spinal physio on 50 Wellington st. It's really common so don't stress too much. Just get some treatment.

Taitam - did your pain go away? How many sessions did it take? Mine started in my first pregnancy, continued on, and almost 2 years later in my 26th week of my second pregnancy, I'm finding myself in constant pain. Can you tell us more about your experience?

My pelvic pain arrived in week 30 of my second baby and it stopped almost immediately after I delivered. I have taken it easy on the exercise though and done a lot of pilates to recover my core strength. I really recommend PhysioMotion as well. There are a lot of physio practices, but not that many who are really specialised and know what they are doing. Abby (Yek) is Panda's business partner and treated me about twice per week until the end of my pregnancy. She is also brilliant. Unfortunately they can't fix the problem but can help relieve the pain. I also recommend the belt/girdle which they sell which helped a lot with stability. Good luck. I really sympathise.

Oh and sorry just noticed your comment about C section. I don't think symphisis pubis needs to affect your delivery at all. Mine was natural and went just fine. Just tell the midwife and make sure you don't stay in an old-fashioned stirrups type position with your legs up and very wide apart. A good resource for support is a UK site called something like Pelvic Partnership - worth googling. I found the info on there really helpful. Banane 76 - I am sure your comments are meant to be helpful but if you haven't suffered from this pain it can be extremely debilitating. I could barely walk more than about 2 or 3 minutes by the end of my pregnancy and I am normally a slim, fit person!

Wow that is tough! I still have some pain (10 months after the birth) but it's now lower back and hip pain rather than pelvic pain. I started off going for physio twice a week for the first month, then once a week for another month, and once every few weeks after that (this was during the pregnancy). Now I go about once every two months. If I was more diligent with my core work I would probably be alot better, really need to do that more! I think definitely give Physiomotion a try, especially as you've been suffering for so long. Hope it gets better!

Thanks for that. I actually started doing physio but by my first visit I was already a few days pregnant ( bad timing!) and so after a month or so I stopped bc it affected the kind of treatment I was getting. The exercises helped, but they started piling up, and my first trimester I was feeling sick all the time, and now is just can't be bothered bc I'm always in too much pain anyway. Bad attitude but... I think I will wait till I give birth again and then try some more physio...maybe where you recommended.

I too totally sympathise because suffered really badly with pelvic pain in my 2nd pregnancy (had it a little in my 1st but only the last 8 weeks and not that bad). Tried physio, was diligent with my exercises, wore the belt but it didn't help. In desperation I tried an osteopath that specialised in pregnancy and it was like a miracle. I only had to see her a few times and I was almost pain free. I still had the instability and had to be careful but could walk normally again. Unfortunately this was not in HK, but if I get pregnant again I would see one from about 12 weeks, it was so amazing. So worth trying to find one if you can - maybe ask somewhere like Annerley. I recommended it to several friends that suffered too and it helped all of them. I saw here once after the birth at about 4 weeks and had no problems from then on, whereas the pain continued for at least 3 months after the birth with my 1st.

Oh and meant to say no need for c section, like newbiekt mine was a natural birth with no pain relief and all was fine and my baby was 10lb. Didn't notice the pelvic pain during labour at all really (maybe because of the labour pain but still!)
