Hi, Im 7 weeks 5 days pregnant and i am just so tired. I dont work or anything like that so i dont understand how i am so tired. I cant sleep well at night cuz of the peeing every hour or so and ive become itchy everywhere, my boobs and tummy and arms are just itchy. I cant really eat properly cuz i feel nauseated after food and dunno what to do...help anyone...is it normal to be feeling this tired? is there anything i can do for energy boosts?
:thanks

Congratulations ! ... there is not much to do, but having some rest, as it is quite usual the 3 first months... you will soon get better don't worry ;). For the nauseas, try to eat little portions more often, and eat only what you like until the nauseas stop. Drink a lot of water, take some Materna vitamines (or anything similar)...
About being itchy, it's quite usual too... but talk about it to your gyno as it can be a liver dysfunction, due to the hormones level. Not saying that to worry you, but it's always better to check.
And enjoy it as much as you can... that's such a great experience !

welcome to pregnancy...

i've endured two HORRENDOUS pregnancies. hospitalised 13 times over both. so nauseous i lost over 20lbs in the first 3 months and was only 5lbs heavier the day i gave birth to my first than when i got pregnant.

all i can say is that this, too, shall pass...

would i do it all over again, if i could talk hubby into #3??? IN A HEARTBEAT!

the end SOOOOOO justifies the means!

Ah, first trimester bliss. I agree with Frenchy. For the nausea, I recommend getting a set of Sea Bands (http://www.sea-band.com/) I was nauseous in my first trimester and also I get horrible motion sickness in any vehicle so these have helped a lot! And they are safe for pregnancy.
I did take Materna vitamins but by the time I got to 4 months I realized they were not helping me much--I needed more nutritional support. Go online and check a site with a list of the RDA for prenatal vitamins (such as: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/nutrientguidelines.htm) then look at the back of the vitamins you are taking and see how they measure up--also taking into account what your diet is like. If you are able to eat all, I found that eating protein helped to balance my blood sugar and alleviated some of the nausea and exhaustion. Protein is also very important during pregnancy as it is literally the building blocks that your body uses to build that baby. :0) But as far as vitamins go--there are better options than Materna--especially, if like me, your body needs an extra boost. The more unrefined and digestable the vitamin is, the easier it is for your body to absorb and use it--the pink pills don't always fit that definition. And rest and laughter also go a long way to making a body feel better. Hope you will feel better soon!

A little off the subject, Carang, but I had ONE horrendous pregnancy and childbirth and aftermath by my standards and I would not have another baby. It is quite admirable that you would willingly go through it again! :0) I am growing to like my son more and more now but would by no means go through it again....nope, nope, nope. :0P (And women tell me that I'll change my mind but I never did have "baby fever"--before, during or after pregnancy--so I guess I somehow missed that bug)

all sounds quite normal Gail - congratulations on your pregnancy! Fingers crossed you get an energy boost soon. Many women seem to start feeling better around 14 weeks then again another boost around 21 weeks so I hope you fit right in there.

MLBW/Cara - me too horrendous first 14-16 weeks hospitalised for the majority of the time with HG...how I went back the second time is beyond me (and everyone else...lol)...I think I was hoping that it couldn't possibly happen to me twice...wrong...lol..

It will get better. Most women feel completely different at 12 weeks or so. It may sound like ages away but you'll feel better.

Congrats!

My first seven weeks I felt awful! Tired, itchy, nauseous, etc. I'm now into my 9th week and actually starting to feel better, so there is hope! I found that Materna helped, although didn't solve motion sickness on the train I take to and from work everyday, but I'm not so tired. Hope it works out for the better for you soon!

yep, there was nothing good about my first pregnancy other than my son, whom i fell in love with instantly.

my second pregnancy in some ways was way worse. i was wheelchair bound for 4 out of 8 months. it did take me a little longer to bond with my daughter, but after a couple of weeks i was madly in love again...

thank goodness i teach baby playgroups, that kind of fulfills my baby needs for the moment...

Hi Gail

I didn't work throughout the pregnancy. Was a real fortunate circumstance as I slept through most of it... couldn't find the energy to get up til past 12 despite getting lots of rest everyday and lots of throwing up til about 6 months pregnant all through the time i was awake! Not working was really quite good as it helped me cope.

So, all quite normal :-)

Ohhhh hang in there!! I puked so much for both pregnancies. I hated being pregnant!!! I love my 2 sons dearly tho so in retrospect it was "worth" the suffering but really it is tough. I used to try and explain to non-parents that it was like being severely hungover for 4mths...I remember I was so sick that I didn't want to eat anything the whole day and when I did, I would cry because it was so hard to swallow the food when I just wanted to gag and vomit it back up.

I did find the following helped:
-taking vitamin b6- check with your doctor if this is ok for you.
-keeping salty crackers next to the bed and eating 3 or 4 pieces every hour. having that little bit of food in my stomach seemed to help a lot
-bubbly water & ginger ale
-in the worst case, throwing up before I ate a meal. It would let me feel better just until I could finish a small meal and then I would close my eyes, set the timer for 2hrs before I let myself vomit again. When the 2 hours was up, I would drink a glass of water and throw that up because it's MUCH BETTER than dry heaving. 2 hours, because after so much experience, i was able to figure out that my body would digest the food in 2hrs and then I wouldn't have "wasted" any of the effort I put into eating!!

My goodness, as I type this out I am sure now that I won't have another baby...

sorry to hear it was so hard for other mums too...

forget food, couldn't even be in the same room as someone eating for about 3 months...if someone called to ask me for a recipe, i'd start heaving...i couldn't go into the supermarket, walk past a 7-11 or mcd's...the ONLY thing i could occasionally stomach was roast chicken with mash and gravy...nothing else.

but...

worse than the lack of food....BRUSHING MY TEETH! i puked EVERY TIME! which kind of defeats the purpose, no?

yes, brushing my teeth the first 3 months was like H---!! Forget about food too although i never did vomit but the first 12 weeks i just can't have any kind of food, not even thinking of it so all i had was water, a little of juice, a little of fruits and crackers. After the 3rd month - all things are beautiful!

we're all on the same boat.

i puked day through night until 4+ months for both pregnancies and honestly i HATE to being pregnant. But i know I've always want two kids so now I'm done :)

I actually felt better after vomiting. I vomited before and after meals and plastic bags were ready everywhere in the house. Funny thing was my daughter even pretended throwing up >.<.

Hang in there, Congrat to you!

ha, my son did that too... walked around the living room with a rubbish bin under his chin going, "blaaachhhhhh, blaaaaachhhh!"

Glad to hear I'm not alone! I still have my head in the toilet at 31 weeks and its mainly the smell, look and thought of cooked food that sets me off.

When it got really bad and I was so dehydrated and started having fainting spells I had 3 weeks of acupuncture sessions every second day with IMI. They also gave me 2 homeopathic remedies which took the edge off it.

I too had severe exhaustion and would wake up tired even after sleeping for 12 hours. Some days I was too tired to get out of bed to take a shower. After some blood tests my GP discovered I was aneamic and also had a poor functioning thyroid. I'm now taking Thyroxin and its made such a difference. Maybe worth mentioning this to your GP if it continues after the 12 weeks.

The only things I've been able to eat during the first trimester was hamburgers, bread, rice and Nutella... and still I managed to lose some weight ! I couldn't even go out my apartment because of the smell of food in the corridors... so the only thing I've found to help against the smells, is to have a tissue with a few drops of perfumed oils, like mint, lemon, lavander...to put under my nose, that really helped !

Yeah.. The whole diet was bizarre!
I went off ALL meat, hated chocolate (made up for it after birth though) and pretty much everything i used to like eating was a total turn off. Mostly vegetarian throughout the ordeal.

I'm going to agree on the Soda/Bubbly solution... strangely enough... I had to have a cup of Diet Orange soda everyday... not regular orange soda, not Coke, had to be Diet Orange soda from Sunkist. Really bizarre!
