Ergo baby carrier VS Baby bjorn active?

I've read a review of different baby carriers and the Bjorn is not suitable for newborns or babies who cannot sit up on their own as it puts stress on the sacrum (lower back) and can actually cause damage to the lower back and hips of babies. We used a Bjorn (before we knew this information) with our son when he was born. I never could wear it because it hurt my upper back too much and my husband could tolerate it but didn't really like it. This time around, with our daughter we bought an Ergo and it is not only healthier for our daughter's back but it's much more comfortable--for both baby and adult. We will never go back to the Baby Bjorn.

my son was a big boy and was ut of it by 5 months and it wasnt comfortable for me at all especialy after the epidural i then got a ergo for when my daughter was born is great only downfall is that its chunkier and baby cant face out good luck xx

We bought the Ergo Performance and it is really light-weight. The infant insert (which makes carrying a small baby possible and healthy for the baby's back) is thick and not so nice in hot weather but...the carrier itself is light, breathable and I highly recommend it over the thicker original version.

An interesting tidbit about the baby facing outward that I found is from here. A quote below:

According to Kirkilionis:"Infants in outward-facing orientations can’t turn away from surrounding stimuli. They can't turn inward toward a parent's body if stimuli become overwhelming. In this position the baby cannot make eye contact with his or her parent to evaluate facial expressions, social cues, and so forth to make assessment of the situation. Only choose a baby carrier that allows your child to face you ... never out. There are too many events going on around your baby. A baby has no way to exclude himself from the environment by turning his head away and towards you. Healthy sleep is difficult for a baby who is facing outward. I am not a supporter of the outward facing method of carrying a child."

My baby hated the Bjorn, and most other carriers! He's a picky guy. He also hated strollers, so we had to get a good carrier. My friend with spinal arthritis recommended the Ergo, because not only is it better for baby's back, but it is much better for Mommy's back as well. My son LOVED it, and used the Ergo until he was four and a half comfortably, because it is designed to grow with the child. It also allows the child to be in three positions: front, side, and back, and it took about 5 minutes to change from one position to another. I carried my son every day for years in that thing, and it is still in great condition for #2, when he or she arrives!

There are three drawbacks to the Ergo, as far as I have experienced. One, I am a big lady, and the waist straps barely fit around me. There is an extension available, but my vanity wouldn't allow me to buy it, so I had to wear it tighter than I might have if I weren't so big. Second, although it is easy to change the straps positions, it does take some getting used to and was hard at first to figure out how to change from side to front seating position (or front to side) and figuring it out in a public restaurant with a fussy baby isn't fun! So practice at home lots before you go out.
Third, putting Baby in the Ergo on your back is quite difficult by yourself. I tended to keep my son in front or side position if I didn't have a helping hand to make sure I didn't drop him.

Like I said, none of these things in any way makes me want to get a different carrier for #2. In fact, I am planning to get an infant insert this time so I can start using the Ergo from day 1 this time. I highly recommend it, for the health and care of child AND mommy's back.

Thanka2 I'm interested to know where you found the information about the bjorn being bad for the babies. Just curious about why it is any worse than the other carriers.

Before a certain age, the Ergo (and all other carriers like it) are unhealthy for the sacrum, spine and back of babies.

The info. is on page 3 of this handout. But, my friend who is a chiropractor and has three children also warned me against putting babies in an upright position too early and also about hurting their backs by having their feet dangling out of a carrier (like the Baby Bjorn). I wasn't aware of this with my first but have been very careful this time around with my second.

I just received my Becco carrier and I love it!! I ordered from their us website and got it 3 weeks later.
I have had babybjorn synergy and Ergo and the Becco is so much better... I m using it with a 11 month old baby but it has an infant insert as well(comes with it not an extra accessory like Ergo)

It wasn't cheap... US$ 140 plus $40 for delivery

we have been using a baby bjorn also but find it's getting more uncomfortable for us & for our 7.5mth boy just shy of 8kg... it really put a lot of pressure of the user and the baby as they get heavier!

heard good things on ergo but hubby does not prefer no option for front facing & find it difficult to put on when trying out our friends'... i usually use a sling which is way more compact and light weight to travel with, work esp well when we were traveling home recently, going through immigration & boarding plane etc...

have been trying to find a beco secondhand with no luck, so just decided to get one from their website and awaiting delivery =)
