Epidural at QEH..any feedback?

i think they do, i was given a sheet of "birth plan" of what pain relief to choose from - I'm only 12 weeks & hasn't even seen doctor yet, so hasn't filled that in yet, but i recall seeing epidural on it. I'm still dithering if i want to do QEH/private.

however, i also heard stories that in public hospitals that they have a quota on epidural for the day... better ask on your next doc's appointment.

I believe there is a quota. Try not to get to the hospital too late as the quota maybe over for the day. I know of a friend who didn't get one.

Oh thank you for your response much appreciated!:)

Just got discharge from the QEH was bleeding and found out i had polyps and they remove it right away. Thanks God my baby is safe! 😊
I'm on my 14th weeks now!:)

Hello poppyseed..😊

Yeah i signed for the antenatal.
Been with the preg early assessment screening because been spotting.

Just done with the down syndrome screening via ultrasound and blood test.
Also done with a group of blood test (5 types of bloodtest)

Be back for Anomaly scan soon and for another antenatal check-up.

How about you? Any plans?

hello summer, I tried signing for the antenatal but the system won't let me the other day, I thought maybe I'm too early and they only let ppl past 2nd trimester or something... I'll try again later tonight. Did you sign up online or through nurse?

My anomaly scan not till beginning of august and my first antenatal will be in a few weeks.. hope results are all okay.

I don't know anyone else that plans / consider QEH at all... most ladies are on HK side.. Do you know anyone else?

Hi poppyseed 😊

Here's my story why i got to QEH.

At 5th weeks got my confirmation of my pregnancy at public clinic and was immediately refer at the same day in Emergency of QEH because i was spotting with blood and they checked me right away (1st time saw the little life inside.:)

Then they refer me again to OB department of QEH for more test to make sure the baby is ok.

After that, they gave me a referral letter again for antenatal and for delivery booking. So got all my appointment with QEH in person via all those referral letter they gave me.

Then recently, i was admitted for 2 days coz been bleeding again.

Been a roller coaster ride for me, been hard for this past few weeks. But for sure it will all sooo worth it soon..

Actually, at first im so hesitate to go on public and its my first pregnancy and don't know anyone coz i just move here in hk few months ago.

Now, im really thinking and praying about epidural coz i really wanted to have it on my delivery.

Hopefully you can make on your next antenatal. 😊

Happy dragon boat festival!

Wow summer, that does sound like a wild roller coaster.. emotionally must be so hard too.. I'll ask about epidural in my appointment in 2 weeks too.. I haven;t decide what pain relief etc yet (also 1st preg) but I want to make sure at least they have when I need it...

Also cool abt the reg cocoamama, we might meet each other in antenatal class! mb we should do a QEH meet up if we all end up there..

Hi there, I gave birth at QE back in Jan and I requested epidural at the time. Unfortuately I did not get it as the anesthetist did not come on time -I went from 3 to 7 within minutes! When I attended the prenatal talks from the hospital prior child birth, they did warn us the anaesthetists may not be available at the time we need them as there are only so many of them n a several operations might be going on the the same time. So even though you made the request, it is not guaranteed that you will get it. So I did mine 100% naturalle......
Good luck!

Hello poppyseed,

How are you? What is the color of your spotting? If its red.. go straight to qeh emergency so they could check right away the cause. Keep praying.
Hope everything is ok with you and your little one.

hey rani & summer, thx for your messages... i went to A&E that night as it was fresh blood (not a lot) but still enough to shock me and I also have abdominal cramps... just for safety I went.. They scanned and baby is very much alive (phew).. however, they just said I should monitor the blood & cramps next few days and if it gets worse go back to A&E... they also said as my prenatal appointment is nxt week, the maternity ward should be able to check more deeply...

So far, spotting has been quite light and decreasing all of today, I still have mild cramps ad hoc... so just keeping an eye and take it easy for now.. I have no idea how many days spotting is supposed to go on for.. :/ but hopefully it will disappear asap...

Hi poppyseed,

Good your baby is ok.:)
Be always happy mommy..:)
Get some rest..

Hope all qeh mommies could meet in one of our antenatal class in qeh.

By the way, do you take vitamins?
Coz in qeh they didn't prescribed any.

Thanks both. Hi summer, I take pregnacare (I bought some b4 I left and my friend also got it for me from UK..), it includes the recommended folic acid and some other multivitamins (just not vit A). Can you ask them to prescribe? (local GP they may be able to do). If not, you may have to get it in a watsons or mannings... or some of my friends said they buy on iherb.com which does global shipping, probably cheaper and even better quality...

Hey ladies, I've finally see the doctor today at the antenatal clinic, so have quite a few questions answer. So Summer - your question about epidural - the doctor said that is correct, they cannot guarantee epidural, he did not say quota but he did say Anesthesiologist may not be available at the time you need it....

I also asked a lot about husband accompanying before & after. I heard so many said that public hospital you're left in a room and husband can only accompany you in delivery (unlike private), but doc said today actually they give some leeway to husband not just at the moment of birth, but have some time with you b4 & after.

Asked about cord blood banking but public doesn't do it. On the positive note, they are pro-breastfeeding and will not separate you & baby, they allow rooming in, unlike private (other than private room in private hospital).

On the other hand, spotting/bleeding for me has all stopped now so all okay (doc said now it stopped, and can hear the fetal heartbeat he doesn't need to further check..., which I wasn't too happy about). While I'm still torn between QEH and St Teresa's and Baptists and will think about it further, I'm just relieved the rest of the results so far are normal.
