Good point -- I was also a bit concerned when I put a wet towel (cool compression) over my baby's neck and head but that was quite effective in easing his itch. Perhaps another way of achieving same effect is to put something cool (not necessarily wet) over the affected area?
 
Thanks as always for your advice, Mummybee. Must try that detergent. Do you use the dryer?

ELT, what is the brand of detergent you use? and, do you use the dryer? I've been line drying with a dehumidifier but even that gets difficult in HK humid weather...
 
It read 'D-nee' on the label. A friend recommended it, bought in Thailand so not sure if it's available here. But anyways, the key is to use something mild and not stick to the fabric so most liquid detergent for baby clothes should be ok. We set the washing machine to rinse 4 times also. We don't use dryer, just dehumdifier on humid days. I guess it's ok to use dryer as long as you don't dry the baby's clothes together with those that contain wool or agents that may trigger eczema.
 
I guess it won't apply to every childs excema, but my son is highly allergic to dust mites.
We recently bought a new washing machine which is more effective at heating the water properly ( water must be at least 60 c to kill dust mites ) and has made the world of difference.
We also use Persil which you can buy at Wellcome, I use half the dosage suggested.

My husband excema is caused by the same allergies, so we are fortunate to know what already works for us.
 
YKY, I don't see why using or not using dryer matters. I use dryer when humid, otherwise just line-dry without de-humidifier. I do like using the plastic gadgets with multiple pegs to dry her clothes. And oh yes, it is a strict requiremnet in my house that helper irons all her clothes. I guess in my naive mind, ironing softens the fabric and the heat from the iron kills off all dustmites (?).

I have also been told washing in water higher than 60C kill dust mites, but honestly I didn't find doing so lessens my daughter's eczema so I discard this practise. I guess if your child is allergic to dustmites, or if money is no issue, you may want to consider getting not just a specialised washing machine but a HEPA-filtered vaccum cleaner. My bother in law (with 2 kids allergic to dustmites) vaccumms his children's bedding every night before bedtime and he swears that it helped his kids' flareups.
 
Ezcema

I have 2 son. One 7 years old without any eczema. The other one is only 5 months. When he is only 2 months. The ezcema start to appear. One of my collegue introduce me to this brand to this..

My son have this problem too. But my collegue recommend this :
DERMAVEEN .. I use the Lotion first..
For me I think you have to cure the dryness then the eczema will be gone..
