Hello Sherwes,

I'm also due in June - would love to meet up. I'm not working so flexible. Day or evening.

Thanks.

Hi Eve12,
Thanks for the reply. Shall we try to meet up next week - I can make lunch on Wed, Thurs or Fri. Where are you based?
Any other June mothers-to-be out there???

Hi All, I am due in early June with my first but I live in the Mainland about two hours drive from east Tsim Sha Tsui. So I can't really meet unless meeting time is when I am happened to be in HongKong. But then my hubby is usually with me. I can't imagine him sitting around and listening to our ladies. :) We will have our baby in Hongkong at the Union hosptial in Sha Tin so we come for regular check ups and we do most of our shopping for the baby in HongKong.

I would still love to be in the loop to share experiences.

Have you started your shopping yet? I know it might be a little early. But We wanted to get the basics ready early so we don't have to walk around so much when my tummy is too big. So, we have been getting a bit of things everytime we are in Hongkong. And since we are both on Chinese Lunar New Year holiday now, we even got our cot and changing table home and put together.

You ladies have a good get-together and please keep me posted. :)

Hi Sherwes,

Friday is perfect for lunch. I live in Central.

Just sent you a PM with my details.

Hi Carey,

No, I have not really started buying anything. Was just having a look at Baby stroller this past weekend.

How often do you make it to HK?

Great Eve12. I will check the PM and email you back.

Carey, this is my second baby so there is very little I need to buy. Happy to give you my thoughts on items you are thinking of buying. I basically bought everything in sight for my first baby (including a whole load of stuff that I didn't need!).

Hi Eve12, we travel to HongKong at least once a month. Recently, we were there more often in the past month, for check ups and shopping for baby things.

Hi Sherwes, I do have questions about shopping. Like you, I have been an obsessive baby thing shopper.

I have questions about buying a breast pump. I plan to breastfeed and introduce bottle with breast milk early as suggested in an article in this website. So, we are looking into a breast pump. My husband insist that we should buy a brand new one for this task due to the close contact it would have for the baby and mother. All the sales lady have been trying to sell me an electric pump which is 3 time more expensive than the manual one.

I am holding back my decision because I am not sure even if I would have enough then to feed the baby and I wanted to do more research on this before buying it. what is your thought on this?

Do you think we need a milk/food warmer? I have a suspicion that a rice cooker or a pot of hot water can do the trick.

And how about all the products for bathing the baby. Is Johnson a better brand than others?

Clothes wise, we've got a few body suit for the first month and a few more for him to grow into. We have about three blankets and two sleeping bags.

We might need more but we are thinking to wait till later to get it.

I've sticking to the list I got from this website to buy things. And I also ended up buying what is not on the list.

Thank you ladies.

I'm due in June as well and would love to meet for lunch sometime. This is my first baby so am excited to meet other moms! Let me know when you all can meet up! Tuesdays and Fridays aren't ideal because that's when I have pre-natal yoga...

Hi, any June mums keen to meet up for lunch tomorrow in central?

Eneri7, what time is your yoga?

Eve, I will PM you.

Carey,
The breast pump I bought was the Avent ISIS electric one. I bought it in Aust and it cost about AU$200 (HK$1,000). I have found it really good as it has a feature that lets you set the pumping action to your prefered speed and suction strength. If you are planning on pumping often (say more than once a week) I would go for an electric pump.

I wouldn't be too worried about buying a second hand pump so long as you know the history of it. Many mothers buy pumps and then hardly use them and I wouldn't be at all worried about a pump that has only been used a few times. You can boil the breast pump (not the electric bit of course!) to sterilise it once you get it home. If you do buy a second hand one just make sure that you get the instructions and (if possible) the original box so that you can check that you have all of the pieces and also confirm how you should go about sterilising the pump before each use.

Re your milk supply, everything I have read says that the more milk you express or the more your baby drinks the more milk you produce. This was certainly my experience.

Do you think we need a milk/food warmer? I have a suspicion that a rice cooker or a pot of hot water can do the trick.

Re products for bathing I didn't use anything perfumed for my newborn. I just pumped some sorbolene cream into the bath which is just a very simple aqueous cream that bayb is unlikely to have any reaction to. Now that baby is older I use Mustella products which are very gentle and smell lovely.

Hope this helps!

Hi sherwes, Thank you for all you tips.
Heard lots of good thing about the advent IsIs breast pump. I think I will go for a electric one. I will be staying home for the first few months until I have to go back to work. and thinking ahead, I might need it for my second one since we are planning to have two. :)

Does your Advent IsIs breast pump fit in other brand of bottles such as bfree?

I began to wash some of the baby clothes today. I am so obsessed of buying. just about wanting to go into every baby product shops and expos ( one coming up this weekend in the hongkong culture and exhibition center). I bought a winter suit for 12 months because it's on sale and I think it would be good for winter time when he will be about 9-12 months.

I also saw online that one should not buy too many clothes ahead of time because you wouldn't know in what rate your baby will grow.

My husband is a good counter force and gives me some balance. Here I am thinking I might miss all the bargain that's out there. :)

Thank you and have a good meeting.

Hi carey, sorry but I haven't tried other brands of bottle on my Avent pump. I'll check the instructions to see if there's any comment on this issue.

Yes, it is very difficult to resist buying clothes for baby isn't it! My 15 month old has a huge wardrobe and he also has lots of size 2 outfits that he won't grow into for ages. I really have to stop myself from buying anymore - it is especially tempting because the sales are so good in HK!

hi! my class is at 12:45 in central. what time are you meeting? i could chat for awhile and just leave a little early...

Hi, I've just moved to HK and am pregnant with my first child. It would be great to meet up, please let me know when you're meeting again. I'm not working so flexible on times and I live in Central.

Sorry I couldn't stay longer because of yoga, but we should definitely meet up again. I know sherwes can meet tuesdays and fridays- i have yoga at 12:45 again on Friday- can we do afternoon tea or coffee at around 2:30? Let me know if you all are interested and if you could make it. Hope everyone is doing well!

I can meet...sherwes also mentioned we can go and do some baby shopping sometime. Fun. Fun.

So Friday at 2:30?

It was great to meet you too. Afternoon tea sounds lovely. Is there anywhere really decadent to do afternoon tea in HK? I think that we deserve a large selection of cakes and pastries with our tea!!

If Sam is awake I will bring him for 20 minutes or so (and then get my helper to take him to the park before he gets too bored).

Re shopping - I would recommend Harbour City at TST or Lee Gardens. Both have a great range of baby shops including furniture, toys and clothes. Maybe we should set aside a special trip just for this sometime in the next few weeks. Anyways, let's talk about it on Fri.

Roslyn, feel free to join!
