Hi,

Just found out that I am pregnant with my first baby, due early September (date TBC).

Is anyone else due around August / September? Would love to chat if you are - all my pregnant friends are back in the UK, so could really use someone closer by for guidance and support!

Thanks,

Amy

Hi Amy,
I know that you are due in September, but we have a due dates club for July, and have some due in August. You are more than welcome to join in our gatherings if you wish to hear about our stories on Obst, morning sickness, hospitals etc. We have only met twice so far, but plan to get together next week. Feel free to drop me a PM if you wish to get further details!
Congrats on your pregnancy, hope it all goes well for you.

Hey Amy,
Just found out yesterday! I estimate that I'm 5 weeks and due early Sept. It's an unexpected but not unwelcome surprise!

I'm still in panic mode a little. None of my close friends have children and I'm a bit in the dark about the whole thing! Thank Goodness for the internet!

How are you feeling?

I feel OK - I have just started feeling tired and a little sick, but that is about it. We are moving apartment tomorrow too so it's all a bit hectic!

How about you? Congratulations by the way...!

I have not really done much so far - I am paying for a scan at 7 weeks as we are due to go on holiday for CNY and I want to have a check before I go. I have an appointment at the QM hospital on 14 February and have also contacted the Annerley about antenatal classes. Which isn't bad in 6 weeks I guess...! Apart from that I have no idea about babies :-)

Hi Jjald and Kitty,

I may just be one of you too! I did a self-test and should be due in early September. My appointment with the doctor will be next week, and I'll update you.

This is my second kid. My first-born will be 5 this year and he's very excited about having a baby in the family.

Don't think I'll sign up for ante-natal classes cos the one I went to for my first pregnancy didn't really help. I mean I didn't quite apply what I had learnt.

Hey ladies and Congrats all round!

Hope everything is well.

I also have my first appointment on 14th Feb but that seems so far away. I'm thinking of booking a private appointment before that to check that things are going OK. Can I just book a private ob-gyn and ask for a scan and check up?

I am having a private one next Monday, there's no harm in it. I am sure your GP will be able to recommend someone who will just do the scan, without the ob-gyn appointment.

GK, you can book a private Dr at any time and most love to do scans because its $$$ :) However if you can, wait till you're 7 weeks. You may not be able to see or hear a heartbeat before then. And if you aren't taking any folic acid, pop into your nearest pharmacy and get some.

Congratulations!

I'm sure we're at the same place...Tsan Yuk Hospital in Sai Ying Poon. It's the government hospital for Western district and linked to QM Hospital. I think all the English speaking folk get put together at the 11am slot and they'll just call us one at a time. I look forward to meeting you.

Thanks for the tip Rani. I did but folic acid the day I found out. My family doctor told me that it wasn't neccesary and that I just needed to avoid herbs! He He!

Hi All

I am due mid Sept also. I have had my first visit with a GP and had the OB profile blood tests. Am waiting to see the OB later this month.
This will be my first baby.

Thanks, I am feeling ok. A bit of nausea and ridiculously tired, but so far no serious morning sickness thanks goodness!

I had a scan a couple of days ago but nothing to declare! Just a little yolk sac. It seems I was earlier than I'd esitimated by a week so I'll be back in 2 weeks to check on progress. No morning sickness for me, thank goodness! I'm just a bit tired and dizzy (no change there!)

I have my early one tomorrow - not expecting to see a whole lot, but want to check all is as it should be and in the right place before my trip to Cambodia next week!

When are you due then Kitty if your estimate was wrong?

I'm quite nervous actually! Keeping my fingers crossed that I actually get to see / hear something.

Will keep you posted tomorrow.

Hi Amy, Flack, GK and all others,

Congratulations on your pregancies! I too am pregnant, still in shock about the whole idea, and all things going well, due on September 1. Today I am 7 weeks and 1 day and have my second scan tomorrow. I had my first scan at 6w3d because I was bleeding and cramping and the scan was able to detect the tiny embryo and sac and even a heart beat! It was certainly an enlightening moment, the whole reality of being 'pregnant' set in at that moment. The doctor said that seeing the heart beat was a very good sign but only time will tell what will happen next.

I had been thinking of doing the public health system but the bleeding panicked me so I booked an appointment with a private OB straight away. I was even able to get in on the day I rang. The cost however was the real shock to the system - ouch! I can see how the public system will be easier financially but at the moment I prefer the attention of a private OB, especially as things are so uncertain with the pregnancy. No doubt however that I can always transfer to Tsan Yuk in later weeks.

Being so early in the pregnancy, the only thing I'm experiencing is fatigue, but that too could also be due to the fact that I am trying to organise my wedding...and deliberating about doing more study...!

Anyway, I've been in HK since April 08 and am originally from Melbourne, Australia. I'm the first of our friends to be pregnant, so hiding the fact is proving interesting! I think my fiance enjoys getting to have my glasses of wine however!

Nice to meet you all.

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I have had the odd half glass of wine and then dump it when nobody is looking. January is quite easy as I can tell people I am detoxing after Xmas!

I still don't "feel" pregnant and forget about it for large chucks of the day. If all goes OK tomorrow maybe I will start to think about it a bit more!

I am not feeling that tired at the moment, doubt I will get away with that one though and it will hit in the next few weeks - my doctors said from about week 7. I am definitely hungrier though, which I am pretty sure is a bad thing for the scales!!

Hope that all continues to go well for you. Let's all keep in touch, and maybe after we have all been scanned arrange a meet up. No wine though :-(
