Due Oct-Dec 08??

Maza - Congrats on seeing the HB

PF - Good luck for your 12 week scan today. I'm not working so I can't help you on the 'how to tell work that you're pg' thing.

Nicole - Have a fun time in Shanghi.

Nina & Sasha - Congrats on your pregnancies and welcome to the thread.

I'm still suffering from the m/s and I'm 11+5 today - when will it ever end??? Not sure if I'm showing or not? Think I may have got a little tummy from all the eating I'm doing trying to keep the nausea at bay!

IT'S A BOY!!!!! We saw "signs" of it being a boy and the doc said he reckons there's a 60-70% chance that it's a boy! Was quite shocked how the baby looked so different from our previous scan (of a blob!)....eventhough I'd been reading all the sites with all the pics of "baby at week 12" etc.

Tink - I'm afraid I can't help with the m/s either as I didn't suffer from any. The mild nausea that I had on some ocassions when I went on the bus appears to have gone now... I've heard most women get over m/s by the end of the first trimester... So, hopefully, not long to go!!!

Ninahh - Have you been exercising regularly before pregnancy? Any yoga/cardio? I'm actually an instructor at a studio called mYoga. They have classes like restorative yoga, women's yoga, stretch that may be suitable. If you are looking for cardio and strengthening, they have a programme called "Bodyvive" as well. Of course, other gyms may well provide similar classes, mYoga is just the one I know well! If you'd like to know more, do let me know.

I need to figure out how/when to tell my bosses - I currently am working two part time jobs, teaching English... I haven't told my bosses yet. I was planning to around week 13. That way they should have some warning before I start to show ;) lol - one of my jobs, I JUST started though - signed the contract last week and haven't even done my first shift yet!! But the pay is $350 an hr, so I'm gonna try to work as long as possible!!

Nina - welcome!!

Oh and about lunch - at the moment, any day is good for me. I only work on Saturdays for another few weeks... then I'll be working maybe 2 weekdays... definitely Monday, not sure what else...

I've been thinking about maternity yoga but I haven't looked into it or anything yet...

PF, yes i have been working out almost every day. but haven't done anything for the last two months. i would love to know some more about that plave you've mentioned.
Wow, a boy! Congratulations!
nicolejoi, I am an English teacher too. I work full time in a kinderkarten, and I have told them already. they were very happy for me and it was no problem at all. where do you work?
lunch always sounds great but as i have to work everyday i could be a little difficult for me.

PF - Wow, a boy - congrats!! You can start thinking of names now.

Nicole - I'm going back to the UK after Easter for a few weeks but would be up for lunch when I'm back (mid April).

I haven't done any exercise, except walking, since I've been pg - I've just felt too rough. Am hoping that as I get into the 2nd tri I'll feel better and I can do some gentle hikes and pilates. I've tried yoga before but I'm such a non bendy person I find it really difficult - I s'pose if I persevered I would become more bendy - lol!

Hello to everyon else xxx

PF - I totally missed your post yesterday when I was posting!! You must have been posting at the same time as me!! Congrats on finding out it's a boy!!

I'm not 100% sure if I want to find out what we're having... In some ways, I'd like to do it the "old fashioned" way and just find out when I give birth... but my hubby TOTALLY wants to find out, so we probably will ;)

My flexibility is all over the place - my arms are SO flexible, I could bend them into just about any shape - but my legs are SOOOOOO inflexible... I think something like yoga would probably help that and get me feeling better all around!!

Nina - I work for two companies at the moment, but the work is exactly the same. I work for PolyEd Int - they teach the Hooked on Phonics course... and we've just signed a contract with Parsons Music to teach the course there as well - so I'll be employed BY Parsons and teaching at their centres, traveling a bit... PolyEd is based in Causeway Bay so it's really convenient for me (I live in North Point)

For all you people who work, do you work in Central or where? Maybe we could do lunch in Central and that way, we could meet up even though some of us are working. Should we plan the first one for mid April when Tinks is back? That's only really 3 weeks away, I suppose!!

Nicole - I'm not back until 19th April so if that's too late, don't worry I'll catch up with you all at the next meet up. I did laugh about your uber flexible arms - I have a very strange image in my head ;-)

You know all those arm stretches? They do nothing for me - I think I must be double jointed or something!! I can put my arm around my head and touch my ear - like, if it's my right arm, I can reach my right ear lol

Anyways ;) I can't touch my toes though ;)

I don't mind meeting before mid April, I don't mind waiting either. Whatever is best for everyone else!!

PF- congrats on finding out its a boy, very exciting!!!

Lunch sounds like a great idea count me in. I'm not working so any day is good for me. looking forward to meeting everyone.

1st baby in October!

Hi everyone!
I am now 11 weeks pregnant, baby due on the 11th October.
I've got to tell you the whole story!
I discovered I was pregnant only 10 days ago because mid-January I was told by Lucy Lord (apparently the OB all the expats go to) that I would probably never have children without starting the whole fertility treatment (she saw on the scan that there was something wrong with my ovaries)
You can imagine that when I started feeling sick, the last thing I thought of was being pregnant; I waited 4 weeks before going to the doc and have blood tests (I thought my body was reacting to a kind of breakdown due to the sterility news and tiredness from work, etc).
Miracle, I found out I was pregnant and one week later I was looking at my baby at another gynaecologist's (of course!). The most incredible though is that I was already 2 weeks pregnant when I had the appointment with Lucy Lord.
Anyway, here I am, pregnant and happy!

Have you seen your baby yet? Madness at 10 weeks, you can see everything, head, limbs, heartbeat!

Hi guys! Just a word of warning, with the increased level of a hormone called relaxin floating around in your body (it helps you to open up in preparation for the birth), you might find yourself more flexible than usual. Don't be tempted to push too much! Cos of this hormone, it is possible for you to stretch too far and, without knowing it, you risk stretching the ligaments in your joints and ligaments are not able to repair themselves!!! Hence, you'll end up with unstable joints!

It's all good with yoga, but you need to know your limits. Yoga can help you to relax and learn breathing techniques. Exercise in general can help you with fitness and strength.

I best stop now. Give me a topic on fitness and I can go on forever!!! :haha:

Nina, I'll PM you more about mYoga. I feel a little uncomfortable advertising it publicly! :P

Thank you very much Rani!

I've started to think about anti-stretchmark creams. I know a few French brands but I have no idea what I could find here in HK. Any suggestion?

i've just read, that it wont make a big difference if you use anti stretchmark creams. but can't really believe that, on the other hand i've heard thet baby oil is quite good, and that it is all about the massage. so i just use the oil and hope I wont get any stretchmarks.
but if you want a proper cream you can try any mummie baby shops. I rememeber seing some in the babyshop in horizon plaza, but there is another good one in central, next to shanghai tang on pedder street. you have to go inside the building and i think it is on the 3rd floor.

Yes, I think my sister used olive oil (or some other oil) for her first pregnancy and she's sure it worked... cos with the second, she didn't have time to do it and got stretch marks!!!

I went to Times Square, Sogo, etc yesterday and indeed, I realised that it was just oil that we needed and nothing "special pregnancy". And actually if it's especially made for pregnancy, it's way more expensive! (Clarins stretchmark control HKD666, although BodyShop stretchmark HKD279)
I ended up going to HealthQuest pharmacy in Happy Valley (after reading another forum) and they can mix different oils for us. I'm waiting for a 'quote', we'll see.
But I admit I'm confused, does that mean we can use any body lotion as long as it is a good moisturiser?

i have a question,
one of my friends is moving to beijing soon. i gave her the geobaby link to get some connections to other mums (she has a 1year old daughter). apparetly there is no geobaby for beijing. anyone knows any other good addresses i can give her. or is there a geobaby for beijing with another address?
MamanV- i think any good moisturizer will do, but the best is plain oil.

Hey everyone, how was your easter?

I'm back from Shanghai now - it's great to be home! I was a bit sick up there - I think just with the tiredness and all that. It's the first time I've been sick this pregnancy...

I have another ultrasound on Friday, I get to see the baby again - and this time it'll have arms and legs, not just be a "blob" ;) I'm looking forward to it!!

I think I'm STARTING to show - but you can only notice if I'm in something skin tight - and if you know that my tummy was FLAT before (now it's round/bloated a bit... it just looks like I ate too much) - so I'm not really "showing", I guess... *shrugs*

9 weeks today, still feeling good!! Except one of my friends had a miscarriage over the weekend :( So sad...

easter was ok, stayed in hk, so nothing special. i am 11 weeks today and also think that i am showing already, but as you sayd nicole, it looks more like i have eaten too much.
i also have a doctors appointment tomorrow, he is going to test for down syndrom. it is a little scary feeling but i am sure everything is fine.
so sorry for your friend, nicole. hope she is feeling better soon. my work college had a misscarriage, just before i found out i was pregnant, it was pretty hard to tell her that i am having a baby now. but she is fine now and happy for me.
i think i have reached that stage when you feel just great, with tons of energy. except my skin is breaking out....
in germany we say, when your skin and your hair doesn't look nice anymore during pregnancy, it'll be a girl. because the girl takes away the mothers beauty :-) lets see, not long and we're going to find out.
