Due June 2014

Hi!

Hope it's ok to join you - I am due June 10th with my second (the first is only 11 months - uh oh!). Would be keen to meet up but I also can't do this weekend as we are at a wedding (a little bit worried about my evening bloat making me look quite pregnant in my nice dresses by the end of the day - it's easier to hide under jeans and jumpers!)

We've had our 8 week scan but only told a couple of people - I can't cope with our over-excited families when am feeling sooooo sick...

Hope everyone is feeling well?

Hi AnnieC! Welcome to the group :)

I've been feeling pretty nauseous too over the last couple of weeks - hope you're feeling better soon! I've started carrying around little packets of plain crackers in my handbag, as I feel far sicker when I'm hungry - are you the same?

Hi, I just found out a couple of weeks ago that I'm pregnant and due around June 22. We moved to Hong Kong not too long ago, and don't know what I should be doing next, check out hospitals and define where to have the baby? Or find the right obgyn first and then book a hospital? This is my second child, first is 20 months old but he wasn't born here.

Would love to meet up, my time is flexible on afternoons.

Hi BBmum,

I think it is usual (assuming you're talking about the private system rather than public) to choose your Obgyn first then often they handle the hospital booking on your behalf. Mine does anyhow! The wrinkle to this is that not all Obgyns deliver at all hospitals so if you had a strong hospital preference it is worth checking that your Obgyn practices there when booking in. I was pregnant with my first when we moved to HK - I remember being very confused by the system! The Facebook group Hong Kong Moms is very good for doctor recommendations and I think there was a big discussion on the different hospitals a few weeks ago which might be useful?

Dbkiwi - yes so much sicker when I'm hungry (I keep digestive biscuits by the bed!) and also when in the car, which is horrible. Hopefully not much longer till it eases off!

Hi Lotusflower,

I've just booked a table at Classified Happy Valley at 10am Saturday. Table is booked under 'Sarah'. The address is 13 Yuk Sau Street. Look forward to seeing you there if you are able to join us.

Hi BBMom! I'm due June 21 so we're very close!!

I'm going to go the public route I think with some private obstetrician appts along the way - the public system seems good, and we just can't afford the fees for private really. I'm still figuring out the system though and quite clueless myself - this forum has been really helpful though :)

Hello Ladies!

I am due around June 10th and I would love to meet other soon-to-be mothers! Unfortunately, I am working every Saturday so please keep me posted on your next meeting!

Hi Annieclau,

Congratulations! Would love to meet up, I'm sure there will be many more times we will catch up, we could do a Sunday or week night if that suits better? Will definitely let you know if we organise another time/day.

Thank you Sarah! Yes, Sundays or week night (except Tuesdays) are better for me. I really look forward to meeting you all!

hi all,

New to hongkong and new to motherhood :)...seems a bit daunting right now. We just had our first ultrasound and are due June 25th. I have so many questions, and right now we just feel confused. I really hope thats normal. :) Keeping it a secret except for close family right now..
So good to see other ladies with similar questions / answers.
Would love to meet all the lovely ladies on this forum.

Best,
Tanvi G.

Hi!!

Rani, thank you for the helpful link and info! I went through the list and was lucky they were able to give me an appointment for this week.

DBkiwi, I'm also considering the private/public system as well, although it seems strange to be having two doctors for the same pregnancy.

AnnieC, I'm a bit more calm then when I was with my first one although with different worries, like figuring out the system, trying to find a good caring dr. and with see which system works best for us.

Been having some morning sickness as well which I was ok with my first one, I don't feel like eating anything, and some foods I can't even think of... but strangely I am hungry at the same time!

Hello Ladies. What a blessing to have found this group. We should definitely set up a meetup!! ;)
My name is Joy, and I just went in for my first scan which they told me I am about 9 weeks. All this is super new and exciting and Im so glad to have other mommies to be around and looking forward to getting to know you all better.

Hello ladies - hope you don't mind me joining, I'm actually due first week of July, but just so pleased to find a forum with so much advice. We're keeping it all a secret for now, but we're very new to Hong Kong and it's my first pregnancy so feeling very confused right now! I've got my first appointment at Tsan Yuk at almost 12 weeks - it seems ages to wait, is it worth getting a one off private appointment in the next few weeks just to check that things are OK?
Thanks so much for any advice.

Hi Paw14! Congrats on your pregnancy first of all :) isn't is exciting! And yes, confusing too. When I first found out, my GP said we needed to register at Tsan yuk but like you, they didn't give me an appointment until 12 weeks! Which seemed an age away. So I did a bit of research, and found you can register at any MCHC near you that is connected to the hospital you want to give birth at (I just found this info online). So, I rang my closest MCHC (in Tung Chung) and they fit me in 3 weeks earlier - I went in on Thursday! So that might be an option for you. I will still have to go to Tsan Yuk for scans, but for regular checkups I can go somewhere much closer to my home which is great.

The wait for that first appointment is really tough, though. We considered getting a private appointment before the first public one too, but decided against it in the end. Because they can't see the baby or hear its heartbeat in the first few weeks, any early check up is just going to involve blood pressure/weight/some questions - and then some blood tests. We rang a couple of obsts. who were going to charge us $2000 just to do that! So, we got our GP to check that stuff for us and then just 'held fire' until our registration appointment (which, by the way, took 3 hours and was quite impersonal but super efficient and thorough).

Hope that all makes sense & that some of it is helpful! X

Hi Dbkiwi
Thanks and congratulations to you too! Thanks so much for the reply. I think I will just have to be patient! I think I rang our local MHCH (Sai Ying Pun) first when I was trying to work out what to do, the lady there told me I had to ring Tsan Yuk. I then asked the GP, hoping she would clarify, but she told me the MCHC and Tsan Yuk were the same thing. Bewildering! I probably just didn't understand her properly. GP didn't do any checks just confirmed result and sent me on my way but that's probably normal.
Thanks so much, am feeling very clueless right now :-)
Hope all is going well with you and all the other ladies on here.

Hi!
Very happy to have found this group! I'm a new mommie to be and my due date is June 2014!! Congrats to all the other mommies to be out there too!! :)

Hello Ladies,

I hope you are all doing well! I am now at 15 weeks and doing well, despite frequent headaches.

At the 12-week ultrasound, we saw a very active fetus. He or she was moving constantly! It was a bit surreal. I am already so in love with this baby. I am sure you all feel the same.

I am really looking forward to meeting other mothers-to-be. We should plan a meeting in early January. I'm in Central but don't mind traveling.

Oh, and tomorrow is my second appointment at Tsan Yuk. Do you know if I need to bring my urine in a cup? I remember vaguely they told me so, but can't find the information in the brochure.

Thank you!

Annie-Claude x
