Hi Ladies,

I am 6 weeks pregnant after IVF, due early July. Just wondering if there was anyone else out there due around the same time and how the first few weeks were going?

Lx

Hi lavender
Congratulations!! I am 7 weeks so due about same time. I am doing OK, apart from being quite confused about the healthcare process (we're new to HK) and feeling very impatient about the wait to first appointment :-)
How are you?

Hi ladies, I just found out yesterday and I am basically in shock. Feel very unprepared and unknowledgeable! I got the news confirmed by my GP and he was very casual about when I needed to book my first appointment. He said there was no rush and I had plenty of time to relax and look into my options before making any decisions (he said I should be due around Jul 19). He was very pro-public healthcare and has suggested I start researching the Queen Mary. I also think just to get the ball rolling I will book in for an antenatal at Tang Chi Ngong Maternal Health Centre in Wan Chai and have signed up for a class with Annerley to learn more about combining the public and private systems. Unfortunately due to some pre-booked holidays I can't join until Jan 10 (May try just popping in to see if I can at least get some reading material in advance). My main question is now is finding a Dr! Any feedback to share?

Hi Hellob4by - congratulations, hope you are getting used to the idea now! I felt pretty shocked too. I'm planning to use the public system and Queen Mary. To use QM you have to register with Tsan Yuk and have your prenatal appointments there - I have my first one at almost 12 weeks. The wait until then is killing me though (it's my first pregnancy so it's all new and weird) so thinking about going for a private appointment in the meantime. I think you can just supplement the public appointments with whatever you like - depends what you're happy to spend. I looked at those Annerley classes too, but the timing and location is awkward for me from work - please let me know if you find out anything helpful from them!
Have just used a local to me GP so far to confirm the result so sorry not to be able to offer any thoughts there. The GP didn't do anything else or ask me anything and I was dazed with shock :-) which is why am now thinking about getting an extra private appointment.
Good luck working out your options and hope you are doing OK.

Hello Everyone,
A hearty congratulations to all of you.
I am 6 weeks pregnant and still struggling with my intermittent morning sickness.
I have made a preliminary visit to Dr. Sally Fergusson just a couple of weeks ago. She has asked me to come after a few more weeks for the blood tests etc.I stay very close to QMC so thats my obvious choice. I am planning to club my pregnancy care with public and private options. I intend to continue with Dr. Sally for my consultancy and do all my tests and delivery at QMC to optimise. Dr. Sally might be a little bit on the upper side (approx 2000 HKD per visit including a scan) but she is a very experienced and an excellent doc undoubtedly. For those of you looking at public options, i hv heard that QMC has some v good Ob-Gyn there as well.
Can anyone tell me how does the registration thing in QMC works? I am v new in HK (abt 2 months) and still trying to figure out things.
Thanks.

Hi ladies, I am due 10 July so currently 9 weeks and struggling with exhaustion - bring on the new year and more energy!
I had my first bub at QMH and saw Dr Ferguson for private visits - I highly recommend her if you want to supplement the public system.

Hi everyone - I'm 8 weeks, due 15 July with baby no.1. Unplanned and still getting my head around everything. Saw Grace Cheung yesterday and had first scan, which helped reinforce what is happening! Also looking forward to the New Year, more energy, less insomnia, and hopefully no nausea :-)

Hey ladies,

Congrats everyone! I also can't wait for the new year to have more energy, have never been so dazed. This is my first pregnancy and am also registered at QMH and with Dr. Sally - looks like quite a few of us might end up there at the same time :)

@ Mariababy, have you found the info to register at QMH? If not, I can give it to you, let me know. Basically you need a letter of recommendation from your doctor, and then you need to call 2589 2100. Found them helpful on the phone but haven't yet had my first appointment.

Anyone up for coffee on Sat 21st or Sunday 22nd?

I'd love to meet up - but am away for the holiday from December 20 to January 5. Definitely up for meeting in the new year though

Hi All,

And Congratulations!

I am mom to be for the first time, and I am now 10 weeks (still cant believe) . I chose public system too and like many here could not wait till 12 weeks and went to a private clinic for my first ultrasound, I went to Dr. Ma Ching Yee clinic and very pleased with her. I saw the little one on the screen for the first time and heard the heartbeat, was amazing! I live in Tseung Kwan O and will be delivering in United Christian Hospital.

Anyone here lives nearby?

If anyone interested to meet up for tea or coffee still let me know!

Cheers

Hi everyone

I'm 6-7 weeks and due end July/early August. I'm going to see my OB next week and looking forward to my first scan. I live in Happy Valley so if there is a meet up somewhere on HK island I'm keen to join!

Hi everyone.
Great to see so many ppl in the forum :).

@lavendar, yes I figured out the QMH system. Hv been called for a first doc visit there in early jan. In the meantime I m due for my 2nd visit to Sally next week. She's a darling for sure. Btw just wanted to ask u that the visit to public doctor will be in QMH or tsan yuk hospital? M a little confused here.

M definitely in for the meet up on 20th or 22nd. Whenever. It's cool with me. Let me know.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,
I am 9 weeks pregnant, due around mid July, I am trying to figure out the pre-natal care, I think we will be going public for the first trimester as our insurance doesn't cover us until Feb. I am on Lantau, so trying to work out which hospital to go too. They all seem a long way to go when labour starts! This is my fifth baby, but my first in HK, so feeling a bit nervous! I am glad to be able to chat to other Mum's expecting around the same time. Looking forward to the end of January when I hope not to be feeling sick any more!
Best wishes

Hi all
Away a lot of Christmas/new year period, but would love to meet up in new year.
Have a good Xmas everyone.

Looks like there are quite a few of us in the same boat! I had my first ultrasound this morning and was surprised to find I'm 8.5 weeks, not 7 as earlier thought. Due date now fixed for July 27, so I only just qualify for this forum! :-)

Seems there are a few of us away over Christmas, how about we try to meet up on Jan 11th some time in the afternoon? Anyone know any good places to meet?

Bernadette

Hey Mariababy,

I went to Tsan Yuk hospital - had my first appointment there yesterday. Bring a book, there is a lot of sitting around! They just did a blood test and asked a few questions. Am having twins so going back tomorrow to meet a doctor, but not sure that I'll go to all the appointments after that if I am seeing Sally. Will you?

Jan 11 would be great and sounds like most people will be back then. Since a few of us are in Happy Valley, maybe we could meet at the Starbucks or Classified there?

Hi ladies, I went to Tsan yuk on Wednesday for first appt. As lavender mentions, take a book!
Just a heads up though, I was just expecting it to be registration and after a while a lady gave a few of us a briefing in English and mentioned that they might be able to do the downs syndrome test that day, but probably not. I (perhaps very stupidly!) assumed this would just be the blood test bit anyway, but it turned out they were able to do the ultrasound bit too. Since this now seems to replace 12 week ultrasound am now very disappointed that I didn't get my husband along so he could see it! Just thought I'd mention it in case your husbands/partners can make it as they might spring an ultrasound on you. Also they can share in the waiting around boredom!!
I am in kennedy town so happy valley ok for me for meeting up in the new year.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the heads up. I had my appt with Sally last week n found out that m 10 weeks pregnant. She's given a due date of 16th July for me. I and my husband saw the baby in the ultrasound. I was overwhelmed n in tears! She's so far taken my blood for thalassemia test. That's part of her routine screening.
My appt at tsan yuk is on 2nd jan. Thanks for letting me know what to expect. Is the Down syndrome test compulsory? I m not sure whether I want to do it. Still giving it a thought. What are the other blood tests they do at tsan yuk? N what are their charges like?

Hey lavender, congrats on ur twins dear. Awesome. I m cool with 11th jan. Let's target that then.

Lots of best wishes to all.

Hi mariababy

Just wondering, what is involved for the Downs syndrome test that they offer in the public system? Im going through the private system, but the Dr proposed running the NIFTY TEST which comes with an expensive price tag. I heard from friends that the Dr should be able to do a ultrasound to measure the neck skin which might indicate if further testing for Downs is required. Do you or anyone else have experience in the testing for Downs ?
