Hello,

New to Geobaby thought that I'd start a thread for the future moms, due in July 2009. We're expecting our 1st baby, on the 10th of July if the calculation is correct! Currently 5 weeks and 3 days...first visit and first scan done...so excited!

Would love to meet some mums to be based in Central !

I'm thinking to go to Queen's Mary but now having a private GynOb (the schedule is better for me, I work in Central and my husband is there too, it's easier to go during lunch time). Will register at Queen's Mary later cause I am not willing to have everything thing in double. Does this works ?

Oh I almost forgot, my name is Jeanne, I'm french, just moved to HK in june 2008.

Hi

My experience at Queen Mary as a public patient is that you see a different doctor everytime you go for your check up and you would never know who would deliver your baby.

If this is ok with you, I think QM is one of the best public hospital in HK.

In the end I gave birth to my boy at the Matilda, cos I am more comfortable with my private OB

Hi,

That's what I heard yes, I cannot afford the all thing (and especially the delivery) through the private system, my insurance package is quite low ! so I do not really have the choice and it's fine wit me. I'll use my insurance package for the pre natal with a private Ob.

By the way, do I have to register at QM anyway ? Is there any deadline ?

Congrats for your baby boy :-)

Hi zany500

You need to call Tseun Yuk to make a appointment, they are the ones who do all the pre naetal check up for QM. All the check up is basically free and you need to pay for ultra sound scan but from what I know they do not do it as often as private OB.

Their contact number is 25892100

You would need to bring proof of address, proof of pregnancy,

please free to contact me if you need more info.

Thank you very much for all these info !

Last question about QM...do I have to register now or can I wait untill the "last minute" (week 30/34), to avoid double follow up (my private OB + Tseun Yuk)?

Thanks for your tips.

Hi Zany,
Congrats! I'm also in my 5th week entering 6th week on Wed. Hence I'm having my first scan on Wed. I cant wait! I'm also kinda nervous since this is THE scan to check out if everything is ok, and if they see a heartbeat. I'm in "shock" with regard to the pregnancy news but I think it will sink in once the doctor confirms there is a heart!

Hi Zangy

I dont think its a problem. I registered late like 34 - 35 weeks as well because I only got my HKID recently. I just delivered my baby on 7 Nov under emergency c-section.

I have all along been under the care of a private OB who used to be 1 of the most senior OB consultant in QM before he went into private practice.

Thanks a lot jaz1311 ! I'll do that then :-)

Hello aimeedg, congrats !

So funny, we are about 2 days apart !
I had the first scan last wednesday 12th (I was 4 weeks and 5 days), no heart beat for me it was too early, just a quick scan to chek if the f?tus was at the right place, and mesurement to date the pregnancy. After the scan, I had the first tests : blood test, urine test, blood presure, medical history, etc. everything is fine...Next visit december 15th for a 2nd scan.

I'm so excited !

Which doctor are you going to ? It's your 1st baby ?

Jeanne

HI I am around 6 weeks too, have my first appointment with OB on Friday. Very excited and don't think I can decide on hospitals before I know everything is as it should be.
But I am not insured so QM sounds good to me. And I probably go for private OB as i tried the public Women and Baby Centre and gave up after 3 hours waiting, I am to sick to wait this long every time and how should I explain at work...
Which private OB are you going to? I already found this a hard decision:-)
All the best for all early pregnancies.

Hi robbieudo

Congrats !
Same here, 2 reasons to go pivate/QM : low insurance package / working and can't wait for hours !

I chose to go to Central Health on dudell street. I saw Dr Lucy Lord for the scan, and her nurse did all the test. The staff there is really nice ! Dr Lord sounds good, she doesn't speak that much, she is quite busy...I think it's notmal ! Her nurse is really nice, she took some time to answer my questions, and explain things to me. Good experience, I'll keep going there for the ante-natal care.

Private stays quite expensive: 2560 HK$ for the first visit, including 950HK$ visit + scan, 1360HK$ for the lab test and 250 HK$ for the vitamines (Materna) + Omega 3 & 6.
My insurance package is 35000HK$ all inclusive (ante natal visit and delivery), so I'll use it for the ante natal in private and go to QM for delivery. It doesn't cover a private delivery anyway !

Happy pregnancy !

hi July 09ers!

I am 4 weeks. Had dr appt yesterday just to make sure everything is ok. still deciding whether to go public vs. private. I have insurance but may not cover much. hope to chat with you all soon!

Hi. I am due in July 2009 as well. I am just 6 weeks. Very exciting and unexpected!!! More excited than anything. Still deciding where to deliver, doctors, etc. I am new to HK figuring all of this out.

I, too, would love to meet with Mommys-to-be for July 2009. Congratulations to all.

I am going to Alexander Doo on Friday. A friend recommended him. Will let you know if I am happy. Looks like its going to be a very exepensive first visit. Its a bit annoying as we dont have a cover at all. Anyway will do it and see from there. Happy to meet up, but I am always so tired and sick and I have already a 3 year old son wanting attention. Are you guys feeling sick too? Or is it just poor me:-)

:welcome: MisB and ladyj, congratulations !

I feel less like the "lost girl who learnt she's pregnant and just moved to HK" !

Everybody looks excisted, that's great...me too :-)

I do feel very tired, I've never been like that before, I feel like sleeping all day...
I do not feel sick otherwise, no morning sickness (just a little, but it's not strong and it doesn't last), I'm lucky ! some smells start to bother me, and I easily feel dizzy (if I stand up too quickly for exemple), but that's all.

congrats to you too zany500! I moved to HK over 3 years ago but this is our first so I'm feeling my way through the whole pregnancy thing here. I get real tired too and am extremely hungry when it's mealtime. do you have any cravings? for me, I have a strange craving for citrus, especially lemon juice, strange since I usually have such a sweet tooth.

Thanks ladyj !
No craving for me yet...but some food I usaully love starts to disgust me like a glass of pure milk, sweet, salmon, mixed juice, muesli. It's very strange !

Hi Jeanne,

Nice to meet you! It is my first baby so I'm pretty excited. I hope everything will go well with my first scan tomorrow. I will definitely let you know.

I haven't decided on which doctor yet but more inclined to go with Dr. Doo. Who is your doctor?

Aimee aka Aimeedg :)

Hi Aimee,

Let me know about your scan today ! You might see a little more than I did, I was only 4 weeks and 5 days when I did the scan...a black spot was the only thing I could see.

My doctor id Dr Lucy Lord at Central Health clinic on duddell street.

Good luck ! :-)
