dried fruits for babies

Hi everyone,

I'd like to introduce dried fruits (raisins, apricots, prunes etc) to my 8 month old baby's porridge for the extra fibre and high calorie/energy. However I note that many of them contain preservatives such as sulphur dioxide and potassium sorbate. Are these safe? Is it possible to buy dried fruits without preservatives? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Hi, I have used both prunes and dried apricots for my 7 month old. I just boil them until soft and mash and serve - she loves them. There have been no reactions, allergies or any difference that I have noticed.

Try some organic dried fruit, a bit more pricey -- at least you don't have to worry about any preservatives.

There is some good selection of organic dried fruit in Citysuper/Health Gate.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'm sure the regular dried fruits are okay but I'll probably go organic at first since my baby does have some food allergies/intolerances. Thanks.
