Dr Patrick Chan - thank you so much for your care!!

I've seen quite a few doctors and went through so many IVF cycles for the past few years and all of them failed. Dr Patrick Chan was referred to me by my friend and although I haven't heard much about Dr Chan but I was very impressed with my first visit. Besides the professional advise that he had given us, he has a very caring & sincere attitude to us. My experience going to the very famous IVF specialists is that they don't really have the care & time going through all the details then they will try to push you to start the process with you. Dr Chan tried to understand all our problems & needs and I have a strong feeling that he also cares about the stress & frustration that I have been going through all these years. And I think this is the most important thing coz IVF is a very stressful process and this is the first time I'm having this feeling that I had never experienced in the past. Dr Chan didn't rush us to start the new cycle as he thinks that I should be better off to rest for 2 months since my last one just failed. Thank you so much Dr Chan!! :thanks

My friend had a similar experience. She went through a few rounds of IVF with one of the famous fertility doctors in HK (I won't mention the name here) but after being pushed through a few cycles, she switched to Dr. William So who suggested she wait a few months and give her body a rest before resuming. She ended up getting pregnant naturally during this rest period too!

Dr Chan

I had my IVF done by Dr Chan too, and successful on the 1st round (thankfully). The process was not stressful for me at all, as he and his nurses tried to make things convenient and easy for me. he's a great doctor who doesn't impose his views on you, and always give you plenty of room for your decision.

Konradsmom,

Congratulations with your successful IVF. You are a lucky one being successful on your first try. I am in the process of looking for a good IVF doctor as I have been trying to get pregnant for the last two years without success. I know different doctors have different protocols so would you please share your treatment plan with Dr. Chan?

1) what was your fsh and LH levels?
2) what stimulation were you on? Did you use gonal f or something else?
3) how many eggs did you end up retrieving and then transfering?
4) what were the quality of the embryos?
5) were you given cetrotide?
6) were you also given estrogen and progesterone supplements? if so, what was the dosage and form? (i.e., tablets or suppositories or cream?)
7) any other medication you were given?
8) any other things you can share that may have helped you be successful?
9) if you do not mind, may I ask how old you are?

Thank you in advance. I would appreciate as much as you can share.

I am just wondering how you guys found the very famous IVF doctors? Is it because they treated celebrities or the very wealthy? I'm trying to sort through my way re: doctors in HK for my family and it seems like everyone seems to want to go and see the same person based on word of mouth recommendations without knowoign much else about the doctor. I don't want to have to try out a few doctors before I get to the right one, especially in cases regarding IVF where time is of the essence. Would appreciate any comments you guys would have in this area.

I haven't had IVF, but we were planning to. I have been seeing Dr Patrick Chan for over a year, and totally agree with PP. He;s very patient, caring and sincere. We started off with clomid, then injections, then IUI. After a year of treatment, we decided to take a few months off and then start IVF. Dr Chan was completely supportive of what we wanted to do. In the end we conceived whilst "taking a break." Dr Chan just laughed and said, "well I guess you didn't need my help after all!" I am 4 months pg now, and he's still taking great care of us. Best of luck to you on your IVF journey

pookey,

congratulations on your pregnancy. could i ask what sort of injections you received while with Dr. Chan? How many IUI's did you try before taking a break? Also, may I ask how old you are and if this is your first child? I have been trying for 2 1/2 years now and am also thinking of IVF. Thanks for sharing.

hoping

Dr Chan got me pregnant with twin-boys! I felt 100% aware of what was going on all the way through the treatment and what was the strategy in my case.
He takes each patient as a challenge. This was the impression from my first visit till the last time I saw him. Although it was very hard for me to travel from China and Russia, I think it was worth it!
Thank you Dr. Chan, you have the best profession in the world!!!

hi to all couples dealing with infertility.

there are great websites out there, like resolve, fertile thoughts, inciid, where you can glean a great deal of knowledge. why one person's protocol might not work for you. how easy it is for clinics to skew results. are there any difference between progesterone suppositories and injections? cetrotide and lupron? three and five day transfers? just how important is the embryologist? what does grading of embryos mean?

having knowledge when you walk in can really help you determine if the RE and lab is a good match for you.

infertility makes you feel so helpless. everyone around you is having babies, and you can't do the one basic thing you were always told your body is meant to do. knowledge is power.

Good luck to each and every one of you who are struggling to conceive, and i hope your infertility journey ends soon.
