Dr ho vs dr chan

Hi, I've had a miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy last yr and have had to have my right tube removed. We have since been ttc but no luck.

Looks like I'll have to go the ivf route. My gynae recommends dr Philip ho. I've heard great things from friends about dr Patrick chan but for normal conception. Would appreciate any experiences with the doctors on experience, success rates fees and bedside manner. I would like to pick one as I don't want to waste anymore time in starting the process. Thanks four your advise in advance

I've seen both, and as a doctor for a routine pregnancy, I would 100% recommend Patrick Chan - however, Dr Ho is more of an infertility specialist, so if you want a better doctor for infertility, he's probably better. I personally don't like his bedside manner as well as Dr Chan, but as far as I know, he is highly regarded for IVF etc... Up to you though, what is more important to you.

Thanks for your response, Nicolejoy. Good bedside manner would be quite comforting as I'm emotionally drained already ( before even starting the ivf process) but I suppose I can lean on you folks in the forum + friends and family for support. So it's looking like I should go to dr ho. Do you know of anyone who has had ivf treatment through him, and is willing to share her experience? Please send me a pm if you do. Once again, thanks very much for your response

I have 2 friends who did ivf with him and they really recommend him. He is very good and very efficient.

I had two natural conception and delivery with him and I really really like him. He is always very good and kind with me. When things are good, he is efficient (that maybe why some find his bedside manner not as good) but whenever there is a problem he gives his 101% and is extremely kind and gentle. I am extremely grateful to him. His professionalism and decisiveness has helped us a lot. He also didn't want me to take any unnecessary tests.

I had fertility treatment and then two natural deliveries with Dr Ho. I agree with Obiwan. His manner can seem a little offhand if things are all going normally but when it counts he is extremely kind. I have seen him now for nearly 4 years and I now think he is actually a shy person so not always very outgoing. I could not be happier in his care and would highly recommend him. I also really like Kelly the nurse who runs his clinic. She is a great support as well and runs the clinic extremely efficiently.

Just wanted to add - my frustration with him was because when I first went to him, I wasn't sure whether to go public or private. After I decided to go public, he basically "dismissed" me and told me not to come back. A lot of doctors do not like to see people who will not deliver with them, and he is one of them. I wish he'd been more upfront/kind about it - but anyway, there was a "reason" for my main frustration with him (although just in general, Patrick Chan is fabulously kind and sensitive, whereas Dr Ho is not so much). I've had friends who delivered with him and their experiences were more positive than mine.

I thought Dr Ho was fabulous. I didn't use him for fertility treatment but I've heard that he is very good. I was a high risk pregnancy so that is why I went with him and he was nothing short of brilliant. There were a few complications when I was having my c-section and he was calm, professional and always talking to me and making sure I was ok. If I was to have another bub then I would not hesitate to use him.

I agree with birch that Dr. Ho was fabulous. Yes, he is short on the touchy feel-y department but then, I didn't go to him to hold my hand and wipe my brow. In lay terms, I chose him because he was someone who would do all my worrying for me. Sure enough, he sieved out all the noises and kept me informed sufficiently but not too much. At the same time, he was very upfront and helpful about anything I need to know for myself. He did my amniocentesis (I decided to do it after 3 sleepless nights) and I went through a good delivery even though am an old chook who is allergic to most pain-killers.

Thank you all. I have made an appt with dr ho, would appreciate an estimate of what his charges are for fresh egg cycle and frozen egg cycle. Thanks!!

Probably a bit late in the day but I went to Dr Derek Lo for IUI and a friend at the same time went for IVF. I am an older mother but IUI worked first time and IVF worked first time for my friend. Dr Lo is smart, experienced and patient and his support staff are amazing , especially Michelle and Ivy. Their response to queries is second to none.

compared to other doctors his fees are very reasonable.

Dr Lo monitors the medication you are given very closely and is quite conservative in dishing it out. I never felt 'ripped off' by him. As my husband said' Dr Lo will make sure you will get pregnant!'

hi all, thanks for your responses. I did go to Dr Ho eventually but after 3 failed IVF cycles I'm reassessing my options. I was thinking about Dr Ingrid Lok/ Dr Doo or Dr Choy - would appreciate any recommendation.
