At the last dinner I attended, I recall that some of you were looking for helpers - likely you have already found someone but if not I just wanted to pass on what I found out.
First off, there were a number of women that came back as interested, however, they would be 'break contracts', which means that they would have to give notice to their current employer, process their new papers and then exit and re-enter Hong Kong. I think that this takes approximately 8+ weeks depending on how much you follow-up with Immigration etc.
My helper also told me that she is trying to find her younger sister a position. She would be a direct hire from the Philippines and would similarly take 8+ weeks before she could start work. We are really, really pleased with our helper but I have never met her sister. I would guess that having her older sister here would be helpful as our helper could assist with transition and what to do (our helper had to make the transition to working with a wester family and is doing awesome even though she has had to learn new cooking, childcare techniques etc.). Her sister's info is as follows:
She's 32 years old, her name is "Roselle" and she is single with no children. She has a B.Sc. in Customs Administration so, she has post-secondary education. She has completed a basic life support, basic first aid and live-in caregiver skills development programme. As part of the live-in caregiver skills programme she received training on first aid, home management, nutrition, child care and instruction in working with western families. She has experience with children as she helped raise my helper's two boys who are now 9 and 13 (from birth) as well as the other nieces and nephews.
