Doctor's fees

Anyone else delivering at a private hospital? I'm wondering if you could share what the fees are like.

For HK Sanatorium in a private room (they only let you room in with the baby in a private room) the charges are:

28k for 2 nights/3 days normal delivery
32k for in-house O&G delivery fees

wasabibunny, have you checked the hospitals' websites? All have a breakdown of charges.

There are so many variables - types of rooms, types of delivery, etc.

I'd say that if you are seeing a private OB/GYN and delivering in a private hospital, you'll need to budget for at least $75k for all your pre-natal checks.

A friend of mine delivered at St. Paul's in Causeway Bay which was a lot more reasonable. Their service is better than public but nothing akin to the Matilda or Adventist.

Do a search for previous threads on similar topics, too.

Good luck.

i will be delivering in the HK Sanatorium. i have reserved semi-private and i have sort of adding all th costs + my OB's check up fees etc., i believed it will be over HK$100k...

snoopy,

yes I think the total cost is quite outrageous but I hope it will be a good experience. I also hope to have a natural birth with out an epidural so that will cut down on costs.

Canossa with Dr. Lam Yung Hang

I'm very likely going private and delivering at Canossa in Central.

The costs are like this:

Normal Delivery for Doctor (ward room): $16,000
Room for 3 days (3 person per room): $14,000
Epidual: $10,000
Baby Hearing Test: $400
Baby Paediatrician: $5000 (or you can request your own)

Total minimum: $45,400

That's the minimum, but of course there are many unpredictable factors. Ie: emergency C-section, forceps etc

Hope this helps. Btw, I've tried calling Sanitorium, they are all booked for March 2009 deliveries, ditto on Matilda. WHAT?!

Lisa,

Are you sure they are fully booked for all room types? When I booked my roon at 12 weeks I was told by HK Sanatorium that their Semi-private rooms are ususally booked up but private and general wards have less bookings. Good luck!

Hi Lii,

I will be delivering at Canossa in March too! I could not get into HK Sanatorium too, they said that they were fully booked for a long time! Hats off to all the mummie who knew that they were pregnant right from the start.

It is a bit nuts. I'm due next March and when I went for my first OB appnt back in end-July (I was just barely 6 weeks along), my doctor asked me if I had chosen my hospital (Matilda) and if so, he would book me in right away. At that point, the Matilda was still taking bookings for March but apparently it was already full for February!

wasabibunny,

No, didn't specify which room type when I called, just asked for a booking in March and they flat (Sanitorium) out told me no! Well, as long as I have a bed somewhere, I am OK :)

Definitely hats off to those mummies who made firm decisions on where to deliver right away!!!

Most updated experience in Canossa with Dr. Marcor Wan

My baby just turned 12 days yesterday and I would like to share with all the mummies about my experience and cost to saty in Canossa.

It was my second time to stay in Canossa with Dr. Wan on a schedule C-section (my elder one born on 4th April,06) due to big baby(4 kg with a huge head of 44 weeks) and previous C-section. I had the exact package although I stayed for one less night in a private ward for this time. Last year I paid HKD 86,000 (round figure) and this time I discharged with a bill of HKD 92,000. The different was actually from the Dr's charges : Dr. Wan increased by HKD 6,000 and the anesthetis increased by HKD 2,000.

I'm very happy with the both experiences during my stays there, I think all staffs are very friendly and helpful with lots of experiences.

I also would like to proof that all the labour wards are extremely busy during this period. Luckily Dr. Wan made a reservation for a private room for me, apparently that was the only bed avaliable on my delivery date. The nurses told me they have to send 3 mothers to govt. hospital for natural birth within that 2 days, since all private hospital on HK island were full.

Good Lucks to all mummies !!!!

Hey guys, Canossa offers a maternity package that includes antenatal visits (approx 12 visits, all ultrasounds, tests), delivery (v or c-sec) and post-natal visits for $28,000. If you want to upgrade your room you add additional costs on top, plus epidural ($3,800) and paeditrician ($500 per visit) and any other emergency treatments. I wonder if its worth going for this package?

Has anyone tried the in-house docs at Canossa? What are your thoughts?

I'm seeing a HK doc who is based in TST and is trying to convince me to have a c-sec, becos she won't travel to HK island for v delivery. I asked her to recommend a HK island doc becos I want natural birth, she asked me to reconsider and confirm with her at 30 weeks???

Haniikwok, your doctor doesn't want to travel and therefore want you to have a c-sec? I find this amazing. Can you still change doctor at week 30?

I heard Canossa is not bad. I think in general the hospitals on HK Island are better and more westernized. One of my friends had booked a hospital in Kowloon and apparently she can only see the baby 3 times a day during feeding time, if she is staying at room below private room. Some hospitals also prefer bottled feeding than BF. So you better check the hospital's practices before you book anything...

Wasibibunny,

I'm booked at Canossa, but I haven't paid my deposit yet. I will probably do that come early next year. Around Jan 2009.

I confirmed my booking at HK Sanatorium a few times and they said they don't need a deposit. I was told I just have to paid when I leave after the birth. I was quite surprised because of all the negative info I've read about boooking cancellations and such but HK Sanatorium seems to have me taken cared of.

I have booked Canossa and opted for the maternity package they offer. Turns out the $28K doesn't include hospital charges, so add an extra $20-30K for a double or triple room. My doctor is Dr Wilfred Sze-Hung Wong, he is very nice and encourages me to have natural birth, and sister Bernadette follows me round everytime I come in for check-ups to give me all the info and advice I need.

There were a lot of charges not listed on Adventists' site. You also need to include:
1) Ob/Gyn's fee (ours was $50K for c-section, 40K if it's a vaginal delivery)
2) Ob/Gyn's daily visit charge multiplied by the number of nights you stay,
3) Pediatrician's daily visit charge multiplied byt he number of nights you stay,
4) Nursery charges per night and all miscellaneous fees, etc.

I have to say that the Adventist doesn't nickel and dime you like the Sanatorium does for every little item you use or any service you require.

The Adventist is chasing us now in the first week of January for a deposit of $20k for delivery in first week of May, 2008 - ie, four months before baby arrives.

We also have a booking at the Matilda but they have not chased us for a deposit yet.

To be safe we are also going through the Queen Mary classes. This seems to be nearly free but for "non-eligible persons" (ie, not HK residents) the cost is $39k for 2 nights + 3 days and thereafter $3.3k daily. (http://www3.ha.org.hk/hkwc/ppi/downloads/feescharges/FeesRevision_NEP_Obs_eng.pdf)

I paid the $20K deposit back in November - my due date is in early Feb 08.

Don't think Matilda requires deposit..
