do public hospitals have private rooms?

Hello Ladies,
Do public hospitals have private rooms or do they have only public wards? I am researching Tuen Mun Hospital, Princess Margaret or Prince of Wales but cannot seem to find much information on their websites.

some do... i know that QMH and PYNH have them. i'm not sure about PWH or the others, sorry. best thing to do is to call the hospital authority or the hospitals directly.

you will pay private prices, though...
 
Are you looking for a private room for labor? I don't think Pamela Youde actually has private labor rooms. They do have private and semi-private recovery rooms, though.
 
I called Prince of wales and the guy said that there are no private rooms only public wards. How strange.

I must admit POW wasn't very forthcoming when I asked them about private rooms. I was told that they do offer it but they would backdate all the services I had with them and the cost would be equivalent to a

full private hospital service. I asked the nurse there personally and she gave me the name of another nurse or registrar to call re: private rooms.

In the end, I chose public.

Same experience for me as for Newbie_HK at the Prince of Wales. Also, they wouldn't allow me to book in advance, I could only see if there was availability on the day (and I had a caesarian so the day was known). I was fully planning to get a private room, but when they told me the costs, it wasn't worth it.
 
From talking to another mum who went the private-room-in-public hospital route - in QMH - even with the backdating it works out to around hkd50,000 for a natural delivery, which is way cheaper than a private room in a private hospital without antenatal charges counted. QMH seems to have the best deal though - because you can attend private antenatal appointments in a private clinic, have a good chance of delivering with that doctor, can reserve the private room in advance, I have a feeling chances of epidural are better, and then the advantages of the private room are you can have your husband and baby with you.

It's an option I would have seriously explored if I hadn't woken up to it so late. Now, in my third trimester, I've decided to just go with what I already decided.

Hi Bagel, I had my twins in PMH and no private rooms there. they are very proffesional but no privacy at all...if you have any questions about PMH you can send me PM..I spent there more than a few days...
