Do I need a referral for a 12 week scan?

Hi all,
I am on assignment to hk and am 8w2d pregnant. I had a scan at 7w back home in aus and won't be returning until December. I am keen to have a 12w scan done here. Can anyone recommend where I can go and who inshould see to get this done? About how much would it cost and do I need a referral?

If you book an appointment with an OBGYN then they can do a scan for you. You do not need a referral for this. I had scans done with Dr. Doo and the visit and scan cost was $1900. He scans on each visit and my first appointment with him was when I was 12 weeks pregnant. he was very thorough. There is a directory on this forum that will give you the numbers of all the OBGYNs in HK and you can call and make an appointment (which can take a couple of weeks for 1st appointment). Some are cheaper than others and this forum will tell you pros cons and prices for all of them but if it is just for a scan then I would probably just choose the cheapest one!

You do not need a referral just to see an OB and get a scan. But you may need one if you want insurance to pick up the cost. If you have insurance here you should check with them.
