Hi everyone!
Can someone pls clarify if it is ok to continue giving my 21 month old distilled water from a bottle or should i give her mineral water? Also, do you recommend that I boil tap water (when I make pasta or rice, for instance) or should i use water from a bottle? Thanks....

also I took my daughter to the pediatrician last week because I was worried about her coughing at night, the Doctor told me that many babies develop a cough when they move to HKG. He didnt prescribe anything, saying that it will go away...anyway, its been more than 5 days later and that cough has turned into now a daily and nightly cough with mucus. I plan on taking her to the ped again tommorow, cause I am a little reluctant to believe this HKG theory. Has anyone else experienced the same thing when moving to HKG? Thanks again for your advices....

Hi, I have been adviced to use boiled tap water for baby's milk and so that's what I have been using. As for cooking baby's food, tap water again. My son was born here and never got a caugh so not sure about the theory either but if your baby's cough is getting worse, I would suggest taking him to the doctor again or buying him infant cough medicine off the shelf.

Asalles,

Can I ask you which milk you give your daughter? I noticed with D that he would get very Phlegmy with soya milk and even after a long stretch of Formula. He would cough all night too! Have switched him to Rice Milk and we now all sleep better.

water and milk...oh my!

Hi Rani,
I have been giving my baby regular milk from the supermarket. - Premium Grade A (Flower Fresh Brand) You know, i never thought to associate the milk with the coughing, but maybe that is something i need to take into consideration. The doctor gave me some cough medicine but I still can hear all the phleme as she is coughing. Can I find Rice milk at any supermarket and how is that different from whole milk? Thanks again...

hie. my son is now 7 months. he did suffer from difficulty in breathing when drinking his formula milk n make noises n got cough until we found out tht it was the formula milk gvg him tht problem. we changed it to soy n he is fine. i do give him tap boiling water. he is fine with it. so it wud b better if u cud check with ur ped abt child's milk.

Rice Milk is available at ParkNshop (in the expat locations) and I guess at Great and City Super. I've also seen it occasionally at Wellcome. Maybe you can try it for a couple of weeks and see if it helps reduce the phelgm. I also give D multi-vitamins and Cod Liver Oil as Rice Milk is light and doesn't have the fat that whole milk does.

Tap water, depending on the area and the building you stay in. Some pipes in some areas are rather rusty and will not be a good idea for baby to take. Some building do have a filter system and you are "save" to drink boiling water.

Some people are allergic to mineral water. Do Check
If not, you should give the baby distill water as well as mineral water, so it gains the natural/essential mineral through drinking.

With the cough, I suggest you seeing another doc. to get advise. My child's been seeing Prof Yeung at HKS&H he's experience and patience and is always willing to spending extra time with you to give advise.
