Diapers-Best place to buy

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me where the cheapest place is to buy diapers (either pampers or huggies)?

Also - Cannot find LARGE containers of vaseline to buy for baby - only small ones at B2B, Watsons etc.
Any recommendations?

The Chinese pharmacies usually have the best prices on diapers. They only take cash, so you're getting an extra 5% off for a cash sale.

Have found the generic brands of Petroleum Jelly at Bonjour Cosmetics. They sometimes have large tubs, and the price is much cheaper than Watsons.

Here's a list of locations

diapers

Thanks to everyone for your input!
Wondering if you can tell me though where I can find a local Chinese pharmacy? The one's I have been into do not seem to sell diapers.
Hong Kong Island locations would be most helpful.
Thank you!

Keep in mind that the brand name doesn't mean the same diaper as back home. We use the store brand at Toys-R-Us. We tried Pampers here and they weren't the same as in the USA. As a matter of fact, Gateway has (had?) a big sign stating that there is a difference between the US and local Pampers.

In my opinion the best place to buy nappies (diapers) is Europe.

For some reason the huggies nappies in Europe are far superior to the ones produced in Asia. They sell the European ones sometimes in B2B but they are more expensive. I usually fill a suitcase full of nappies from Europe when we visit, which fortunetly is every few months.

used pampers exclusively with ds#1 ... usually bought at watsons (silly and expensive, i know!!) we also stocked up while in Canada. Pampers there (US/CDN) fit FAR better (on my kids)

now with twins at home and in nappies, we buy SEALER (think it's a taiwanese brand). (sorry, pampers just tooo expensive when you're doing it x2!!) Really pleased. no rashes, no leaks. You can get tehm at mannings. on the LESS expensive side ($60-$80 / pk)

other than that we buy at a local pharmacy/dispensery. in the NT we have a big chain called Koon Sang Dispensery and another called BIRDS NEST ... i'm sure they must have similar on the island. ask a neighbor where the best/closest one is.

Also, buy your wipes at the dispenseries too. We get the pampers senstive wipes for HK$16/pk and Johnson's for HK$18/pk. Watons & Mannings are well over HK$22. we also buy over 10 at a time. just make sure to check the expiry on the bottom. did get one that was 2yrs expired and DRY DRY DRY ... but just took it back, showed them and they gave me a new one.

Sleuth is right about the difference in quality. I could not find the same pampers in Philippines. Bought the most expensive pampers thinking it would exceed or at least match the ones in HK, you would not believe how harsh the material was.

And RebeccaMB, thanks for the tips about wipes!

Wow what a great thread. The price of Pampers Sensitive Wipes at Wellcome is 33 HKD!! Please can someone post the name of a HK Island dispensary/pharmacy that would be cheaper? Thanks a zillion:thanks

Snagito,

There's a pharmacy down the road from us in Wah Fu. I go to the one on the 1/F near the Kumon Center. If you drive to Wah Fu you can park in the shopping complex under McDonalds.

Wah Fu is a housing estate in Pok Fu Lam. Where abouts are you? Maybe we can recommend a pharmacy in yr neighborhood.

There's a new pharmacy on Caine Rd across from Starbucks. Also a couple in Wanchai on Hennessy Rd.

if you don't mind using wipes other than johnson's, you can always buy wipes from bonjour. They usually sell japanese wipes and they are okay. Cheap too. Only about 26 dollars for 3 packs.

I've bought the Pink Baby Wipes with Aloe Vera from Bonjour. They're thick and moist and sell for $15 for 80 wipes.

huh... after 12+ years in hk i never thought to buy diapers at a chinese pharmacy!!!

i think i'll have to have a better look around...
anyone know one in sai kung? otherwise, i'll have to go for the wah fu place....
