Dental Options for kids in HK?

My 4 year old needs 2 fillings in her milk teeth (molars) - she is a bit hysterical where pain is concerned and doesn't like needles. The dentist tried to give her some gas and air to see if that would calm her sufficiently so she could do the fillings but thinks that she will probably still be too agitated. So, our only other option is to give her a GA and do the fillings in a private hospital. The quote we were given was eye watering but I guess if there is no non-private option, we have no choice. Our insurance doesn't cover dental.

Is there any alternative?

Thanks for your help.

when my boy was 5, he needed 9 fillings, a root canal and a crown.

best thing i did (besides take him to bumrungrad hospital in bangkok---state of the art and 1/4 of the price, even when you factor in hotels/flights!): i took him to a large toy shop and told him that he could buy one of whatever he wanted (upto $1000) IF he had done what needed to be done.

i held his hand the entire time and talked to him about what he could choose. i kept him listening to me instead of concentrating on what the dentist was doing.

it worked a treat! BUT you need to take her to the shop before you go to the dentist, so you can look together at the toys and have something to concentrate on...

good luck!
