Dental check up and spa treatments

Hi everyone,

I'm going for a dental checkup/cleaning soon and just wanted to make sure that that was fine during pregnancy (I'm now 6 months).

Also, I'm thinking of getting a spa treatment (massage, mud/wrap) while I'm overseas - is this safe also?

Thanks!

Dental check up is fine - just tell your dentist you're pregnant in case s/he wants to take an x-ray.

Not sure about the spa treatment, although I personally wouldn't have a problem with it.

I know that there are certain essential oils that you shouldn't use as they can bring on labour. If you mention to the spa that you're pregnant you may find that they have treatments specific for pregnant women, that avoid the oils and also create a more comfortable environment for the pregnant body. I had a wonderful spa treatment on holiday in Bornea, it was specific for pregnant ladies and was absolute heaven. Enjoy, it's a great time to pamper yourself.

Re. spa treatments. I tend to only go to places that have specific pregnancy treatments on the spa menu, as I have some assurance that they know what they are talking about. As mentioned above, certain essetial oils should be avoided. Also, anything that increases your body temperature is not recommended, so I'd probably skip teh wraps (but I'm nnot an expert). Most facials, massages, manicures etc. tend to be fine. Enjoy!
