Is it possible?
At first, I wanted to deliver at QMH. But I have lost my faith on them after the way they treated my spotting during the first trimester. :(
But I really want to save $$$. Thus, thinking to go MCHC for baby checkup

Yes, it's possible. That's what I intended to do for my second, and I think I even told them that I might deliver privately in the end but needed to keep both options open for financial reasons. They said they had no objection (don't think you need to tell them though).

I was also open with my private ob/gyn that I wanted to do some checkups in the public system and he was fine with it. I particularly did the more expensive tests public.

In the end, I delivered public (at United Christian) so it was a good thing I kept the options open.

How do I register newborn at MCHC?
I'm still going parallel route. Check up at MCHC but have booked St Paul hospital for delivery.

Here's a list of MCHC

Family Health Service Maternal and Child Health Centres

You can call and register at the nearest one. I do remember getting a letter from the clinic in our area shortly after baby was born, with details on the services they offer and an appt time for our 1st visit. We didn't go as we had already signed up at the Well Baby Clinic at the Canossa.

Silly question. My hubby and I hold HKID but nor permanent residency. In this case is the baby still considered eligible? What do I need to bring?
When I'm registering with MCHC should I tell them that I will be have delivery in private? When is the 1st checkup after hospital discharge? Do I make appointment with MCHC before or after delivery?

Baby will have a dependent visa and is eligible .

Here's a list of things you need to bring

First appointment is around 1 month, which is when you will receive your birth certificate.

Of course you can go MCHC for check up, even you can keep going to QMH check up.

You can request a record(:butbut:need pay) to your private doctor.:doctor:

like others have already said - Yes ofcourse you can. We did with our first born and plan to do the same with our second one (deliverd private and went to MCHC for vacs and development checks).

To register a newborn, you need to call the MCH near where you live. Can't help with the number as I got that on a slip from the hospital I delivered at.

I was told to call the day I was discharged from hospital. They generally give you an appointment for around Day 5, (after delivery) and I realised the reason they do that is that neonatal jaundice tends to peak then. For my second child, I actually tried to ask if I could come a couple of days later and they said no, and I'm glad I went in as my baby had to go back into hospital for jaundice treatment.

So I think you can call right after you deliver and book. You don't need birth cert, obviously you won't have one, but have to give that later when you get it. You can take your ID and your husbands as well as the delivery documents of your baby and proof of address. They'll tell you what to bring over the phone I think. You don't have to be a permanent resident, but you have to be an "eligeable person" (a non-permanent resident HKID is valid - that's what I used. If you're currently registered in an MCH you are eligeable I believe).

If I've got you correctly, you want to go to the MCH for check-ups during your pregnancy and deliver privately. That's fine. You are not obliged to tell them that. They anticipate a hospital bed for you anyway around your time of delivery. Closer to your delivery date, if you are absolutely sure you are going private, you can inform the MCH if you wish. You are not obliged to though.

Some unsolicited advice - if you're planning on delivering public, one of the big advantages is knowing the doc who will be at the delivery beforehand. So maybe do a few appointments with him/her just so that you know you're comfortable with the doc.
