delayed motor skills and language

Very well said DiscoveryBay! I couldn't agree more.
Mother's Instincts indeed are the best. If i had relied on what doctors alone are telling me, I would have waited some more. But i knew that my son needed intervention so I sought for more specialized diagnosis.

Doctors and mothers are great partners towards raising a happy, healthy child. Relationship should be proactive and built on trust.

Good luck to everyone in the same predicament. Trust on the power of a mother's love

i posted a reply in another thread on speech delay earlier and now I see this other thread.
My daughter's about 20 mths old and speaks only few words like papa mama bye bye. She has good motor skills (at least appears so to me) and runs, climbs, dances well. She is very active (which is why I do worry also whether she is hyperactive). But she seems to either not want to say the words or have difficulty speaking them.
Can someone advise how and where I should get started? We have no HKID yet, will be getting it perhaps one or two months later. Just applied 4 weeks ago for dependent visas. Thanks!

 Hello there,

I have a son who is 2 years and 9 months old now and had been diagnosed as "autistis features" and waiting to see a speech specialist. He can now talk single words and starting to copy the words we are saying (not clear though) and he loves singing nursery songs ( and sings it very fluently). He has very good memory and remembers where things are kept etc.... Not sure whether this is good or bad (as sometimes he goes and look for his favourite toy but it's not there and starts a fit). He will be going to a special school next month, Mary Wong in Kowloon Bay, which I hope will be such help to him. I also would like to know if other of your child has a very bad temper and throws a fit every time things are not right. My son is beginning to throw a tantrum every now and then so I really don't know how to stop or control him. Anyone out there can help? I'm beginning to loose faith in myself as he is just getting to out-of-control (will not comprehend).

Please help..............

By the way, has anyone tried the ABA as I have doubts and it's too expensive for the treatment!!!

Speech Delay Best Cure

I agree with DiscoveryBay and I think ABA is the best available method to start children speaking. Contemporary ABA includes play therapy, structured learning, situational learning, etc. In short, it pushes and creates the need for the child to speak! I have been working with children with special needs for years now and there is nothing more satisfying than to see the child speaking spontaneously, seeing a need to communicate! Speaking is not about being stuffed with words; it's about speaking your desire and mind! Contemporary ABA is in short a very effective teaching methodology whether your child has special need or not!
