cost of hiring helper without going through agency

Does anyone have experience hiring a helper who has finished contract in HK without going through an agency (e.g. through asiaexpat, recommendations)? I would like to know how much it would cost (versus agency fees of around 3K) and how easy is it to get all the documentation done.

Wow that's a lot less than going through agency. And I know agencies charge the helpers too.
